Stansted long term parking for bike

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Niesławny el Guapo, Mar 1, 2007.

  1. Hi,

Does anyone have any experience about leaving a bike at Stansted
Airport Car (Bike;) Park? I've found out there is special section for
bikes at Long Term Car Park, free of charge, unfortunately it is open
air section, no roof I mean. What about a helmet - is it possible to
    leave it there somewhere safely?
Any respond/opinion will be greatly appreciated.

    Kind Regards
    NeG

that's right - the thing to bear in mind is that it's also free.
They won't let you leave it in the security hut at the front of the
car-park (I've tried), and although I've seen people lock their
helmets in plastic bags to their bikes, I'm not sure I'd be keen on
    this myself.
"A left luggage facility is located in Zone G adjacent to the Monsoon
retail store. Operated by OCS, tariffs are 0-6 hours £3.50 per item,
6-24 hours £4 per item, and over 24 hours £4 per item per 24 hours or
part thereof. Call: 01279 663 213 for further details or e-mail:
    ."

I ended up taking my helmet onto the plane with me (I'm not sure
they'll let you do this post 9-11 etc.)

I rode to the airport last year but ended up staying overnight in a
hotel and leaving my bike there. It just felt a bit safer and also
gave me somewhere to leave my stuff.

Darsy may be reluctant, but in the past I've toted along a helmet bag
and a dustbin liner, put the lid inside both to weatherproof it, and
locked it to the bike. No worries. If they get past the chain, they're
after the bike, and losing the helmet will be the least of your
    worries.

The BMW, mind, has panniers that I can lock everything into :)

Leave it at my house, I'll keep it locked & garaged. I live quite
    close to the Airport.

Is this similar to the Pink parking scheme at Gatwick?

Do me a favour mate, can you take all the dodgy characters out of your
email address, it's fucking-up the presentation on my news client, ta.
You can just as simply have your address set-up as something like
    NOSPAMelguapo etc.

    Cheers.

No problem mate. "Niesławny el Guapo" is a wonderful name and I'm
happy to offer my garage to UKRMers flying from Stansted.

This offer also applies to posters with dull names.

Ah, in the bit where they have all the CCTV monitors at the front of
    the Long Stay ?

You used to be able to leave them in the back, behind the counter.

This was a few years ago mind. Maybe they've had problems with someone
swapping their HJC for an Arai.
