Saw an absolutely beautiful one of these yesterday in Farnborough - it
was orange and was a 'P' reg with L plates.

  2. The bloke I bought my S from had one similar in his garage. A 125J,
    orange, immaculate.

I had a blue one about 10 years ago. Bought it, did it up, ran it for a
while and then flogged it[1]. Faster than the old S, but peakier, and
that cable front disc was total crap. Nice little bike, even so, but
somehow lacking the charm of the earlier models.

Oh, and it had a brown seat, which is always a Bad Idea.

[1] Charming local girl bought it and was heartbroken when some low-life
    nicked it and torched it.

  3. was that the same as the CB100N and CB200 had? horrid thing. didn't, in
fact, work all that badly if you took it apart and cleaned/greased the
mechanism regularly, but not in the same class as hydraulic ones.

  4. Possibly the same as the 100N. The CB200 had a slightly different one
which used that swinging arm caliper design they employed on the
    hydraulic bikes.

Which means, in fact, that you can convert a CB200 to hydraulic using
the brake system from a CB/CJ250/360 or 400 Four. Bolts straight on.
I'ver seen it done and I know someone who's actually converting a CB200
    at the moment.

Yeah, *if* it was perfectly set up, and *if* the cable was brand new and
*if* the mechanism was perfectly greased....

    .....no, it was still crap.

No. The CB125S was the name applied to the original drum-braked one. The
disc-braked one was called the CB125J, although, confusingly, it had
    125S on the side panels.

    Go figure.[/QUOTE]

My favourite, from a couple of years later, was the CB125 twin. A
mate had one, and we used to look in awe at the 12,000 (12,000!) rpm
red line. Sounded fantastic at those revs, too.

Of course, nowadays 1000cc fours rev to 12k and beyond. Such is
    progress.

But they were shit and never ran properly. I hated riding them and
prefered to borrow my exes C70 rather than one of my mate's CB125T if
my bike was off the road.

It was fairly new. It never carburated right and was a swine to start.
Gutless below 8K revs, and gutless above 8K revs is how I'd describe
it. The C70 was better in all respects.

  8. If we're talking the Super Dream 125, I'd agree. The earlier
unrestricted CB125T was a fabulous bike.

  9. the later ones were strangled to 12HP, weren't they - ISTR 16.5 being quoted
for the older 125T. I had a CM125 as a company bike, nice enough thing in
a cruisery sort of way, but gutless - mind, it started and ran nicely
    enough, just no power.

One of those got me a full licence, so I won't hear a bad word against
    them.

  13. A B120 got me my full licence and I have said many bad words against them.
    It was really shite.

Was I glad to get my test and onto the RD400! That was fairly shite too
(it wasn't a very good one) but it didn't seem so at the time.
