Nothing to do with the 1100/1300 debate. He told me that the bikes were
severely fucked by the time they get rid and he'd never even consider buying
one for himself. Hi rides a SuperDuke when he's not Plodding btw.

The Pan he had at work was on its 4th wiring loom and was having a shit load
of electrical problems again and apparently that was on top of a ffew
mechanical issuses, brought on by the hard life they have. This discussion
took place because a pal of mine (ex Plod) was interested in buying an ex
Plod bike. He didn't bother in the end.

FFS not you as well. Why does every **** feel the need to jump on the
bandwagon and put this in the corporate sigs?

We copied it from someone else, we print everything off twice & then
    burn it.

"The police force decided to sell off all the Honda and BMW bikes after
deciding that officers using them were "particularly vulnerable to
    collision".
The force has been criticised for losing a valuable resource but senior
officers have insisted that the move will "maximise officer safety".

Why not just put 'em in a nice cosy cell and have done?

    ;-)

But it is the 'people costs' that's key these days isn't it?

Also, I know a bike can sometimes / often get to point faster than a
car but what can they do when they get there? Ok I guess with a
paramedic bike they could save a life with the kit they carry so there
is still a point to them but a police bike? Didn't the AA start off
with their patrols on bikes but how many are there out there now?

I've just seen a police car go through the rush hour traffic and
whilst there is little doubt a bike would have got through quicker
they would probably still have to send a car / van anyway to cart
people away or cone off an area etc? Assuming the police rider made it
there in the first place without being wiped out by some numpty?

Seeing how runaway drivers treat the police in cars I know I'd rather
not be trying to stop them on a bike. For anything that the cars can't
do the helicopter / radio / stingers are better at anyway?

Lastly there's the running cost. My 5 seat diesel Rover does the same
mpg as my R100RT ... but carries 3 more people, has a large boot, a
roof rack and is safer (ok, not by much maybe) than a bike in a smash.
