1997, very good service record etc. 80k on the clock What sort of price would it likely make? £1,500. I think the plod models have the 40A alternators, so that's good. Watch out for rotting swinging arem and exhausts.
Quite a tidy old barge to be fair. Had a new swingarm at 60k & the exhausts where ok, apart from an odd little hole on each one at the front of the silencer, drain hole maybe? -- Nige, BMW K1200S Range Rover Vogue Aprilia RSV Mille
I like mine, quite comfy and plenty fast enough for me. I put a laminar lip screen on it which quietened the buffeting down quite a lot, but that still gets a bit annoying sometimes. Starting my new job in central London on Monday so I'm going to be riding it quite a lot more now.
They all have 40A alternators at that age - it was only the early ones that had the puny 28 (or whatever it was) one.
It is a drain hole. Mines on 80k now and I've just replaced the exhausts with a Stainless system. Swing arm is still fine though.
I'd be inclined to agree with that - with the caveat that if it's cheap enough and runs, then does it matter... Of course it does. Who wants a pile of shite that the rozzers have wrecked. It matters a lot. Nige - you pikey northern **** - go and buy a new bike and stop messing up the residuals on second hand stuff. You're worse than Timo. <Snip anecdote!>
96 was the changeover year - mine has the puny 28 amp and its still enough to run heated clothing and lights all day long. Steve
I'm sure it is - IIRC they tend to pack up more readily than the bigger one - and again, IIRC all the ABS models (which mine is) have the 40 Amp anyway.
It looks in a **** of a place too, under the bike. This was fucking sweet for £1500, i will be doing wind & rain all year round. I reckon there was only 8-9 days you really couldn't ride this last year, mainly due to ice. No abs thank **** -- Nige, BMW K1200S Range Rover Vogue Aprilia RSV Mille
Yep, 96/97 they changed from 28A to 40A. (Even the ABS model had a 28A jobbie) 28A was fine to power everything, it's just the coils frequently packed up. Ho yuss. I replaced my 28A with a 40A one, without taking the engine out. (Having previously taken the engine out to fit a new gearbox). This was fucking Do I get a prize for the right price? Nowt wrong with my ABS.
I'm not a fan of it on bikes. The panniers seemd a bit loose on the back & there's a couple of holes here & there, but for that money who gives a monkeys ****? -- Nige, BMW K1200S Range Rover Vogue Aprilia RSV Mille
Having spoken to a Pan riding Plod last year, I wouldn't have one given me. -- Beav VN 750 Zed 1000 OMF# 19
Think you'll find it was the 1300 that was this issue not the 1100. http://www.visordown.com/articles/view/honda_st1300s_poses_serious_threat_to_riders_li/732.html Steve
Nowt wrong with the 1100's Decent bike for mucho cheapo money. -- Nige, BMW K1200S Range Rover Vogue Aprilia RSV Mille
The panniers always seem loose. I like the ABS - works a treat and so does the traction control... I didn't realise the earlier ABS bikes only had the 29 Amp alternator though - every day is a school day. Nige - you'll want this: http://www.st1100.org/
Indeed. Until you've had the dubious pleasure of riding behind a Pan in full flight, the comedy value of wobbling panniers will elude you. I was *so* grateful for the TC on WUN's Pan when negotiating streaming wet ferry ramps. It worked very well and saved me from looking more of a **** that I did.
