If you use online banking, call your bank and arrange to change the
account as a matter of urgency. If you use Ebay, close your accounts.

Go back to the original Windows install disk and run a fresh install.

Kiss any data you had on your computer goodbye. Harsh, but there it is.
A viable backup strategy might have avoided that.

This time install decent virus and malware defences, and you might avoid
being back here.

Boot off a live Linux CD and get the data off to a USB drive?
Then reformat the HDD

I have no disk.

I haven't lost any data.

Harsh - I had a firewall and 2 virus detectors already. I did not know
I needed spyware/malware - I thought virus detectors got those too. I
know better now and have Spybot and (have just got) Ad-Aware. And the
computer is now working again, with automatic realtime detection in
place. I think we're OK, but will be vigilant.

No - our work PCs are very ancient indeed - and why not? They only
have to be very basic for what we do.
