I've just been reading an article on future plans to make the entire UK
road system toll based, by use of satelite (and presumably GPS).

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/3317197.stm

....and it got me thinking, maybe for now it's a pipedream but it's just
the kind of thing I can see getting in through the back door one day. I
know of at least a couple of insurers who are now running "pay as you
drive" pilot schemes, again GPS based, so the technology is already
there, and by all accounts isn't hugely expensive.

If this one day gets pushed through .gov I think we'll see the two
systems merge into one, and it'll probably happen within 10 years..

Who'd like to place odds on it all being linked to some kind of speed
    monitoring system as well?

Ginge was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever:
And you think that's the main worry? What about the gubmint being able
to pinpoint your vehicle's exact location at any given time?

The potential abuse risk of this truly mind-boggling.

    [NHS]
Close, they... Outsourced the development and provision of it to BT,
    Accenture and Sun.

We could always vote for a party that promises not to do such things. Enough
of us writing to papers might get some other lot to become petrol engine
    friendly.

    And the rest :)
I would like to think it will succeed, for 2 reasons.

    1) It is a good thing.
    2) I play a part in it.
Yes, but you have a right to be.

  9. I'd like to place odds on the fact that you were writing that in green
    ink, Ginge.

No, I was typing it, which is how it ended up on your screen...
Computers, who'd have thought it, eh? :)

    3) Cunts like me will have to make it work from the user perspective and
will get the blame from our board if it's shite.
