Any of you folks got one? Would you recommend one? This one on ebay looks good: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4575909627 -- jeremy '02 Fazer 600 in blue _______________________________________ jeremy0505 at gmail.com
I had one for nearly four years and liked it a lot, but it did have its fair share of problems and the finish didn't put up with my cleaning schedule (i.e. never) too well. but a very nice bike to ride and both comfortable and economical for ling distances. On a steady cruisy run I could get well over 200 miles from a tankful. Doesn't look bad, and that late a model will have had a lot of the early[1] problems pre-sorted, IYSWIM. [1] Mine was a 99 model, one of the first batch, and was affected by a number of recalls. -- _______ ..'_/_|_\_'. Sounds good - is there any difference between the Sprint RS and ST other than the fairing? -- jeremy '02 Fazer 600 in blue _______________________________________ jeremy0505 at gmail.com
Jeremy emerged from their own little world to say Yes. The RS has a conventional swing arm rather than the Sprint's copycat of the Honda VFR single sided one. Apparently, the design of the swingarn allows the exhaust to be routed so that it does not heat the colour cordinated panniers. This gives a fully kitted ST a narrower profile than some other sports tourers with luggage fitted. I rode an RS when they first came out. I liked the bike but as Ace said, the build quality at that time was a bit hit and miss so I went for a Honda CBR600. On reflection, I think I would've enjoyed the RS more. I think Triumph have worked on their quality issues since 1999 and a more recent bike would be a better proposition. The other thing to bear in mind is that the ST cost 25% more than the RS. Therefore, IMO anyone buying a new one is more likely to pay for the nice to have extras such as heated grips & luggage. As a used bike you will probably get better value to the pound with the ST: the value of the extras will not make a huge difference to the resale value of the bike.
Yes indeed. Not really a sports bike but quite comfortable. Mines an )3 in silver. The front forks are a bit naff but otherwise OK. It's got the gel seat which is good for the pillion. It got the panniers wich where about 900 quid IIRC. It's also low mileage. These bikes tend to do high mileage because they are easy to ride all the time. Make sure its had the fuel connector recall. That's the only recall mines had. The build quality is a lot better than the early ones. The panniers will leak, you will have to fit dog leg levers unless you have hands like an ape. They handle well, the suspensions quite soft and compliant and the motors very nice. If a bit lacking in top end go. A really good bike for two up.
Noted, ta. -- jeremy '02 Fazer 600 in blue _______________________________________ jeremy0505 at gmail.com
Been leafing through my stack of Bike magazines and pulling out all the road tests of the Sprint ST and VFR. Seems like the Sprint gets it on "character" whreas the VFR on refinement (and some refer to it as blandness). The report I waas reading (from 2001) said the Sprint started to weave (although I think this was with luggage) at around 100 and that the gearbox was a bit clunky with a tendency to lead to missed gears. Any probs like this? -- jeremy '02 Fazer 600 in blue _______________________________________ jeremy0505 at gmail.com
What's wrong with the forks? £500 for the hard panniers, but presumably you're including the box in that price too. Mine never had that. Just ask Timo. Yup. Plastic bags required. But they will fall off. The mounting clip/lock is a right royal PITA. So easy to not have it properly secured. Oh, really? Ook oook ook. I never found this. Mine was good for an indicate 165 == genuine 150mph, which I found perfectly acceptable. Aye, not bad, but the grab handles are too low and far back for many shorter people. Better, when the luggage is attached, to use the pannier handles, provided they're on properly (see above). -- _______ ..'_/_|_\_'. I never did. 25000 miles with hard panniers on[1] and nary a wobble. Mebbe the top box is worse. [1] They made naff all difference to either fuel consumption or performance so I never took 'em off. -- _______ ..'_/_|_\_'. OK but which colour is best? I rather like the green but the silver looks good too (and there is a 3,000 miler for sale at Hughenden M40 nr Oxford). Not keen on the red. -- jeremy '02 Fazer 600 in blue _______________________________________ jeremy0505 at gmail.com
If you need to ask, you clearly won't understand the answer, which is 'the one true colour', of course. -- _______ ..'_/_|_\_'. Ace (brucedotrogers a.t rochedotcom) \`\ | /`/ GSX-R1000K3 `\\ | //' BOTAFOT#3, SbS#2, UKRMMA#13, DFV#8, SKA#2 `\|/` `
