Is it? I thought they were ok but didn't set the world alight.

I'm seriously considering a 150BHP Astra CDTi next year as company
cage.. I ruled out the 160BHP Cupra TDi as too small, but it looked fun.

Better than the average of my trip to Ace's place in Alsace. In a
    fucking Ferrari.

It was mostly two-lane motorway through Belgium and France - bloody
awful surface and loadsa traffic didn't help.
But being on a black bike wearing a white helmet, with main beam
glaring out, did seem to get some folk moving sharpish outa my way, as
if they weren't sure that I didn't have the right to be there, IYSWIM
    :)

Even excluding your tyre and tunnel closure problems, you didn't make
spectacularly good time. How many fuel stops did you have to make?

Exactly. Once you're there, the fun begins.
So, do you do the routes (des crêtes, de vin) down towards Thannn
much? Cracking roads, they are - I'm just south of Mulhouse so they're
very much on my Sunday ride-out list.

I'm really not supposed to have caffeine...
She was cackling far more than I was after the fourth cup of Black
    Horse coffee.

Ah, the concrete slabs with the 2" mismatches at the joins?
    Heh.

And I appreciated it. Actually, I was thinking at the time that for a
SOGolf, it was a perfectly good car, went well, nice and roomy in the back.
How fast does it go when you're not taking it easy?

It will happily sit at just over 3 figures for hours at a time. I tend
to stick to around 90 as I'd be lost without a driving licence.
Highest I've seen in it is 115 which is not bad for an old badly (oh
all right not at all) looked after F reg MkII lump.

It does keep making the strangest noises. It has got to the stage
where it will cost more to get it through the MOT than it is worth,
but I really like it. Power steering would be nice though.

No, you're not. For good reason.
Yes, but she was gibbering far, far less than you were.

    Because you are :)

Yes, but potentially my risk level is lower than yours, or my desire to
maintain my bike in one piece is lower - so you may throw your one around
more than I do mine - that and possibly knowing the road very well.
To be fair, if we were to compare on the same bit of road that we both did
or didn't know, I probably would. That isn't something I feel the need to
    find out!

It's also down to the number of times one needs to stop on a journey - one
stop completely borks the average speed - and most of the routes I do have
quite a few town bits between the nice bits.

My post was being realistic in terms of ability but also not mentioning that
I used to have one of those cycle computers and because I had the wheel
diameter out it told me I was cycling everywhere at 30km/h - quite an
    achievement.

Just tilt your head back far enough - should open a treat once the wind
    gets under the visor.
