Well, the further South you go, the more chance of me being up for it
    too...

.... so that'll be somewhere on the Coast now, I guess...

Seriously though, you could actually make it down the the Northern
Vosges in about four hours, and there's some _lurvely_ roads around
there, plus I'm sure I could sort a decent hotel...

This sounds nice. Have to be riding quick to make it from Calais to the
    Vosges in 4 hours though.

Not really. It's just opver 500km, so ~320miles to Epinal, so an
average of 80mph would do it.

Or do you consider that 'quick'?

I've had it as low as £65.

If it's not autoroute, yes I would consider that very quick.

For me, normal riding (30/40/50 etc) has an average speed of 40-50mph.

I did once manage an average speed of 99.9mph round the bottom of the M25,
    but I wouldn't do it again :)

Depends what you are riding. On a TS150 it would be optimistic at the
    very least.

It's autoroute (and not necessarily péage) all the way. Boring, even,
    but worthwhile IMHO.
I used to[1] reckon on about 60 average for non motorway stuff,
assuming no stops required. For a longer journey you have to factor in
fuel and coffee/fag/rest stops. I'd be happy to do the above in four
    hours though.
Heh. I managed ~180 miles in <1.5 hours one time, trying to make a
    hovercraft ferry crossing[2].

[1] When I was a) in the UK ,b) doing such things on a regular basis
and c) doing them for reasons other than solely pleasure.
[2] Which I missed by two minutes.

Yeah, I guess. But what sort of a twat would attempt a journey like
that on a bike like that anyway?

Check-times are not going to be much different, wherever you sail from
    really.

    Fuel stops, granted.

Coffee stops... I refer Sir back to my previous comment. ;-)

I guess the real deciders should be based on roughly which direction you'll
be heading once you hit the deck in France, and overall costs.

Whatever, it's TOGs party, and he's entitled to cry if he wants to.

You know as well as I do that loads of us expressed interest in a run
this autumn, but at the end of it the support dropped off, as usual.

    Cheers,

My SOH250 averages between 45 and 48mph everywhere, according to the
