    It was Golden Fleece.

Imperial gallon is 4.54 litres, Nev. US gallon is (or approx) 4 litres.
Don't you young blokes know anything?

A poor example really. Not only would the price of fuel have to double, but
you'd have to make the use of internal combustion engine vehicles socially
unacceptable, and start closing down the road network.

    Really?

You've never lived with a smoker then? I can remember the old. "when smokes
get to x, I'll give them up"......

What is really funny is that you live in Victoria and you say that!

Yep. And then it's "When smokes get to x+$1, I'll give them up"..... and so
    on.

What are these "gallons" of which you speak ? Aren't they the boats
Drake had a blue against ?

    JL
    (I think you'll find a US gallon is about 3.75 L)

"So far Howard's luck has survived a great deal: his move to dismiss
broken election pledges by distinguishing between "core" and "non-core"
promises; his retrospectively time-limited "never ever" pledge on the
goods and services tax; his vagueness about when he committed Australia
to war against Iraq; his shifting standards for ministerial conduct; his
demonising of asylum seekers as child killers; his tendency to blame
"advice" rather than to openly accept responsibility when things go wrong."
Will Howard's luck survive another election ? Do Australians not care
that their PM is a liar ?

You fucking didn't know that one post earlier, ya fuckwit
    Sorry, Nev.

When it was obvious that you thought a US gallon was larger than an Imperial
    gallon
(your post indicates what you typed, therefore I took it to mean that you
thought what you typed [but I can understand that you had no fucking idea
what you typed, therefore what you typed might not have reflected what you
thought], I thought that I might help you understand what was going on.

Now that you know that a US gallon is more like 3.8 liters, you might
appreciate what I was getting at when I informed you that a US gallon was
smaller (and in my words *******approx*****). My intention was to point out
that you were arse-about with your snide and Howard-ish-weaseling-about with
words, whereas I was as pure as the driven snow.

    Now **** off, idiot. :)

  15. A US gallon is almost exactly 3.7854 litres. An imperial gallon is very
close to 4.5461 litres. An imperial gallon is 20.1 per cent more than a
    US gallon.

Almost? What is missing to make it exactly a seppo gallon...the 5th

I'm intrigued at what may have led you to believe that I though a US gallon
was larger than an imperial gallon.

I hope you stay up late enough to read this old man or we'll have to start the
    thread from the top again.

Anyone converting from imperial gallons to litres (4.5:1 or near enough) would
have arrived at a metric price of about 10.4c/litre. Anyone converting from
US gallons (3.8:1 or near enough) would have arrived at a metric price of
    about 12.4c/litre.
I'm sure that's simple enough that even atec could understand it now.
