For me, what I like, atm that is .. :)

(order of unsure, although is approx)

    Suzuki GSX-R1000
    08 Suzuki 1300 Hyabusa
    Kawasaki ZX10R
Honda Super blackbird 1200/CBRR1000 is aight.

1 thing I do not like on most new models is the arachnophobia funnel web
pipe? type zorsts the Busa pipe is the nicest imho, Kawasaki's is the worst
although, a nice Yosh would fix that :)

What do you guys like in the way of today's 2 wheel options? none/other is
all good and all opinions welcome.

    regards
    olley.

  2. What do you want to use it for? The GSX-R and ZX10 are more track bikes and
the other 2 are more touring though the Blackbird is probably more suited to
    touring.

I'll throw a couple of comments in though as I've owned two of these.
A Blackbird (I notice ausmoto has lost the epithet "budgie" for these
bikes, I haven't been posting here enough lately have I?) and a busa.

You don't really explain what sort of riding you are going to do. The
two 1k bikes are scratchers. I haven't ridden either of them, but know
the style and if you are going to fang around track days and get your
knee down then they may be your style.

The budgie is a great tourer that is able to pull some surprising
speed through corners with a good rider onboard (the old adage: your
best performace increase out of a bike is not engine mods, it is learn
    how to ride).

The busa is somewhere inbetween. Not as smooth as the budgie, but a
bit lighter, more powerful and a lot of fun as long as you don't mind
hauling bikes of this size into corners. Which I happen to love.

    Best suggestion:
It's your call. They are all competent in their own way, and
realistically, they are all damn fine bikes. I'd say it is going to
come down to your personal preference. See if you can line up test
rides. If you can't get on new ones, go to places with second hand
ones and take them for a ride.

I went to Melbourne 5 years ago (hi Leddi!) to buy a new budgie after
selling my 96 one after a divorce. I took one for a ride, but went
past a bike shop and stopped there to check what they hd. They had a
busa outside so I convinced them to let me test ridce it. Much to the
delight of one of their sales guys who hadn't ridden the then new
GSXR1000R yet and they sent him out on one of them with me. We had a
great time playing silly buggers around NE Melbourne. Especially as it
was F1GP weekend and there a heap of wankers in Ferraris and Lambos
trying to take us on at the lights.

To me, the busa didn't feel a lot different to the budgie. Higher
footpegs, but not by much. Same sort of tank reach. The budgie felt it
was going faster as it came on its cams as you got this sudden rush,
but reality was the busa was pulling harder, it just didn't have this
mid-rev increase in power. The busa turned in a bit quicker, but I was
never unhappy with the budgie's handling anyway.

We ended up tweaking up the busa til it dyno'd 138kW at the back
    wheel. Grin factor.

If I was going again, I'd get another busa. In the same blue and
silver. Either that or I'd go for a ZX14R or something just to move
on. Oh, did I mention how many girls the busa seemed to pull compared
    to the budgie?
    :)

As for the other two, you'll need to ask someone who has ridden them.

But ride the ones you can, and go with what really tweaks your heart.
I doubt any of them would disappoint you.

You're giving serious responses to someone who is comparing bikes
based on the shape of their exhaust ??????

All 4 go really really fast and a 16yr old like you Olley will kill
    yourself on any of them.

I thought school holidays were over - or does NSW have different hols

  5. I must admit I didn't read the pipe bit :)

Yeah - good point. I'm out of work and bored, OK? You'll probably see
a marked rise in my posts for the next two months. I"d prefer not to
talk to youse and be at work though :p

  6. Personally I hate the pipes on the new Suzukis but they are easily replaceable
    for something much nicer looking.

Yeah I should of stated type of ridding, I no longer have any aspirations
for long touring I did so for years in my 20's, nowadays I like to ride for
no more than a few hours at a time I had a serious high side type accident
on the GPX750 in 93 and landed very awkwardly directly on top of my head I
recovered from that however, my neck is not what it used to be and can't
handle long hours behind the bars of any type of bike.

Track days do not interest me that much I have my favorite public roads I
like to ride GOR/Black Spur and certain sections of Princes highway East
Gippsland as they are all fairly close to where I live.

I just want to go for short rides on weekends and the odd ride to work now
and then as I tried to give the road ridding away but missed it more in
recent times I did test sometime back the zrx1200 (Lawson replica) and it
motivated me to purchase the bike I currently ride however I would like to
keep that and also have something newer, thanks for taking the time to
    reply.

    regards
    olley.

I see I am not alone in my thoughts on that. Have you seen the new Kawa 10R?
those are even worse than the Suzuki, The 08 Busas pipe looks way nicer
stock than the latest GSXR 1000's pipe you are correct though, they can be
    changed.

Yeah I should of stated, I have replied to this a few posts down.
Although I no longer tour much I include the Superblack bird because it does
have good performance and leanability for a tourer type bike.
Your comment above is spot on and I realy do like the Hyabusa now although
it did take me a couple of years to get used to it's unusual looks.
Thanks for the sound advise I shall tee up some test rides then decide.
Typical, stuffed if I'd know why car drivers even want to take on a bike
rider, last time I came across this was a young P platter in a ute (of all
things) he spotted my red/white gigger from a distance back and literly
floored the car at me, as I was ridding to the speed limit and not breaking
laws he literly ran me off the road.

I was going to go after him and give him a knuckle sandwich but considered
for the 1st time in life that 2 wrongs do not make a right and statistics
will catch up with him anyway, had I been in my 20's early 30's I certainly
would of bashed him real good :)
Nice, If I do buy a new large bore I intend on keeping it for sometime and
do not want to outgrow the power as I have done with other bikes previous,
to me the more power the bike has the more longativity it will have in my
    shed full of other stuff.
hehe, your starting to convince me on the 1300 moreso although having been
married for the last 12 years there is no harm in looking alone, my wife
    agrees :)
Cool, thanks for taking the time to offer your thoughts.

    regards
    olley.

YOu know they have Issues when they feel they have to take on a scooter.

You know they are going to go home and kick the cat when the scooter
    wins.

  11. Get a CBR600 or similar. Fast as **** and more usable fun than a litre bike if
you are going to stick to the streets. Plus a hell of a lot lighter.

The current crop of serious sports bikes are IMNSHO better tourers
than many of the sports tourers of yore. Ride the CBR and the GSXR
which both match your criteria above (the CBR particularly)- the R1
and ZX are a little more track focussed IMO.

Also try some of the twins you may be surprised - both the Aprilia and
the Ducati have serious mumbo nowadfays although the duc is not as
soft a riding position as the japs it's still better than its
    predecessors for comfort.

Lastly don't forget the Benelli 1150 triple.

If trumpy released a more hard edged version of the litre daytona it'd
be a good thing, but as it stands its far closer to the budgie and the
busa than a gixxer. I'm sure they'll update it eventually when they
get the 675 competitive in Supersport and they want to play in
Superbikes - can't see it happening for a few years though.

  13. Have you ridden one? Mine is fast in a straight line but corners are
definitely not it's strong point. Waaaaaaaay too heavy.

  15. Trust me, try that option and it sucks. Big time. It's fun for a
couple of months but after a couple of years it really hurts.

I annoyed the hell out of the driver of an SS ute a couple of weeks ago
when I out-dragged him from one set of lights to another two-up on a Vespa.

  19. You're right, I do. I need some track days. But in low speed corners you can
really feel the weight of the Blackbird. In fast sweepers it is fine.
