About 90 seconds after pulling the cork on a bottle of wine from
Transylvannia[1], there was an almighty flash of light followed very
quickly by a thunderclap that made the house shake. Then the lights went
    out.

    Wooo-ooh

I put the cork back in and placed the bottle back in the fridge. It's gone
quiet again now and the lights work.

My glass is getting empty. Do you think it's safe to re-open the bottle?

I thought RE was pretty much compulsory up to age 16.

I think we were allowed to drop it at 14 - only a handful of kids kept
it up and took it for O-level after that.

I think I had it as a standalone class once a week until I took options,
then it was rolled into the 40 minutes a week of personal & social
education after that (or whatever the class was called). Home room kinda
    thing.

All a long time ago now.

Pah. In my day it was RI. Until the 6th form when it became comparative
religion and smidgen of philosophy, which was quite interesting.

Thankfully such shite hadn't yet permeated the classroom when I was a
kid. And what's a "home room" when it's, eerr, at home?
Not so long for you though.

I'm fucked if I can remember what the actual name was for it, but it's a
class in your form room, with your form tutor, where they shoehorn in
all the crap that doesn't fit in proper lessons.
13 years since I went to uni. Feels like long enough.

You're at it again. "Form tutor"? As I recall, the only activity ev er
performed by our form master was calling the register in the mornings.
I bet you can still remember it though.

They were Form Masters at my school - actually all the teachers were
    Masters (or Mistresses).

They were teachers at my school, with the sole exception of the term
"form tutor". The only people who called them masters were teachers
who'd bought wholesale into the "we're almost a public school" schtick.

A few of them even referred to homework as "prep". Twats.

    Ha!

Being a single sex Grammar School it was slightly cloistered TBF, but
close links with another establishment in the K.E.G.S. mafia happily
    offset that.

PSE? Your school was way ahead of the requirements if so.
