Tell us which are the best ones, then! I use the non-resistor version of
    the recommended NGK.

What? Overall? On bikes? On the Wing, or on fuel?

If it's the first: all of it. :)

2: Around £16.5k - includes purchase of CBX and 5 years' insurance.

    3: £7413.20 - includes insurance.

    4: Less than 3.

    It's the fact I have to pay some spanner-wanka who I've never met[1] a

    fucking stamp in my book.

  8. I do get a bit worried that you manage to keep such meticulous records
that you can post an answers (2) and (3) within 36 minutes of the
question being asked. Haven't you got other stuff to do? :)

Doesn't everyone run something like microsoft money and categorise all
    spending?

I could answer questions 2, 3 and 4 (bike related spend) without too
    much trouble.

In fact, I had answered question 4 but on proper reflection decided I'd
keep that information to myself because it hurt too much to read it...

  11. I used to - it got too tedious. As a student I logged all my expenditure
because I was on an extremely tight budget. I was never overdrawn as a
student - it was only afterwards that (CC) debt became a problem.
I would have to go back and check all sorts of bits of paper for little
    value.
I check my statements each month to make sure I recognise all of the
transactions. I double check to make sure any transactions undertaken
while outside the UK always work their way through correctly.

I have a broad brush budget which has all of my major expenditure
recorded in it but I don't reconcile actuals to budget. There is an
"average" budget where lump sum one off payments are allocated across
the year and a "cashflow" budget which times actual payments to the
    months they are expected in.

The budget gets reassessed once a year to reflect changes to regular
charges and any major changes to spending patterns. My monthly statement
check will tell me if my proportion of expenditure to income is on
budget. There are only a couple of months a year when the proportions
get out of kilter but that typically aligns to the cashflow position.

Driving a car with one of these new-fangled computer jobbies is
certainly an eye opener so far as fuel consumption is concerned. Had it
on 'instant' MPG display at first. The rate at which diesel was being
slurped going up long hills on the autoroute, with cruise control set to
proceed at a decent rate but avoid possible apoplectic licence seizure
by the gendarmes, was frightening. Now I generally leave it on 'average'
mpg with the occasional flip to average speed to see if I can set a new
record for one divided by the other.

    Yes. But I don't wanna.

I've kept details like this ever since I bought my Z750E, in '82.

Then, it was to see if I could really afford it (I couldn't, but did
it anyway); now, it's because I've got used to it.

AOL - then again, I don't do budgets, either.

Lucky enough not to have to, I guess. Then again, we don't spend much.

  16. My SOSIII wiv the thirsty 6 pot and towbar did 15mpg and 60mph unladen.
Wiv a horsebox it did 15mpg and 60mph.

Now, given that's a reasonable figure for such an engine pulling such a
load, I couldn't for the life of me work out how it couldn't do better
    unladen.

To brake is to waste energy so braking hard isn't an especially good

I have a whirly, swirly pattern in mind.
I realise that. Part of the reason I got my bike so cheap was that I had
to buy the warranty. I guess the dealer had to make some money
somewhere, I really did (AFAIAC) get a good deal.
True. I think I'll take a trip down to my friendly bike[1] dealer to get
    stamps.
Oi, I'll have you know I'm quite handy with a spanner.

In practical terms, with a manual box, that will almost always be the
case. Auto boxes, such as on at least two of the three examples given,
will always give poor mpg at low speeds.
I've found that it's usually possible to get a good feeling for it on
a long straight flat stretch by ensuring that you don't change the
throttle position and keep a constant speed.

err, no. I just pay everything on my credit card, then at the end of
the month, settle the CC balance, and the mortgage and sling
whatever's left into my savings account.

Perhaps I get paid too much.
