Stop the room spinning by hanging your head over the side of the bed,
    while lying on your back.
    It's magic.

Or tragic; when you pass out and choke on your own vomit.

  4. I had a very similar thing 5 years ago.
It turned out to be a condition called Benign Positional Vertigo.
Bits of stuff (technical term) floating around in the eary tubes get
caught up somewhere and upset the balance gyroscopes in yer heed.

The doctor chappess at the hospicle (the sainted MKG A&E) said there
was nothing they could do, bye bye. Great, I couldn't stand let alone
    ride or drive.

I got taken home and set about searching the interweb thingy for a
    cure.

I found a method of head turning which I tried without apparant
success, then went to sleep and woke up and the room was still once
    more.

Are you certain of your diagnosis?

I got uncontrollable vomiting after I the shit kicked out of me, every
time I lifted my head off the pillow. The thing about this is, that you
run out of stuff to sick up.

just be an overnighter for tests" turned into a ten day stretch for a
lung infection that they stilll can't positively identify

I had one of those 3 years ago. They never did find out exactly what it
was, but it laid me up for 3 weeks. I'm only just back at work after
another chest infection kept me on the sick for a fortnight.

Stuff like this was available over the counter in UK until recently.
For some reason the authorities tweaked some legislation and now, you
    cant.

I did some research into it a couple of years back and discounted it
then, but this is getting silly now. I've not had a flare up this bad
for a long while. I have a strong urge to run down the street banging
pots and pans shouting 'wake up you fuckers, if i can't sleep i don't
see why you should'. I think I'm now officially in the grumpy stage.
Oh my tomorrow is going to be fun.

  15. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
Big Drug Companies Conspiracy Theory, or simply over-zealous paternalism
on the part of the GMC.

Possibly a bit of both, iwt. The same applies here; I've to get mine
mail order. This is the crazy thing - the most litigious country in the
world has no bar on selling this an an OTC thingy; it makes me wonder
just what the grounds are for restricting its sale in the UK & Ireland.

They also got rid of Dramamine, which is the only thing I've ever
found that stops my travel sickness (as well as being a great knock
    out drug).

LN - have you tried getting hold of some anti-histamines? The chemist
gave me phenergen to replace the dramamine and it certainly helps
sleep, if not much use for the nausea.
