  2. I have just received a brand new carb for my Velocette Clubman 500

The label on the box states that it is a carburetter but I thought it should
be spelt carburettor but Google suggests carburetor.

    Who cares ?

You spelt it right in the subject, everything after the first 4 letters is
    superfluous!

I'd say you've got carburettor and carburetter backward. -or is the
correct british spelling, carburetter is the incorrect spelling.

BTW, the french spell it carburateur, and if you plug 'carburateur'
into Google's translator for French->English, you get 'carburettor'.

According to the dictionary, both are correct. "Carburetor" is some foreign
invention from the Americas and has no place in a civilised language.

Seems a bit harsh to blame Teddy Roosevelt (1858-1919) for Noah
Webster's "American Dictionary of the English Language" of 1828.
