I only really have experience of it in London.

I suppose what I'd really like is a "weekly" ticket that runs from
Monday to Friday, and is proportionally less expensive than the 7-day
weekly, as I really never make use of public transport on Sat/Sun.

Speaking as a northerner black pudding is bloody awful stuff.
Why somebody many years ago looked at some lumps of congealing blood and
fat and thought "Umm tasty, that'll do for tea" is beyond me.

I normally avoid it outside of London but during the petrol strike I tried
to use trains and buses to get to work 40 miles away. I took over four
hours 2 buses, 2 trains and about half an hours walking. I gave up and took
    the bike.
That would be nice and save me about 150 quid a month. Can't see it
happening as the Mon-Fri commuter probably subsidises the weekend services.

  4. Yep, my daughter taking nearly 5 hours to get from Canterbury to
Billingshurst after visiting her sister remind me why I shall continue
to run my own vehicles. That and a complete absence of a working bus
service to actually get to the station in the first place.

If it was the weekend you're on a hiding to nothing atm due to
engineering, especially on the Southern Region.

Probably worth pointing out they still point at aeroplanes in
    Billingshurst.

I tried to cross Belfast by bus in December. Not far, just Short Strand to
Boucher Road. It took 3 hours, by the timetables it should have been 1.

I'm self declared as being slightly to the right on social policy. A read of
the Daily Mail leaves me feeling quite nauseous however.

Look what happens when you start "cleaning" your .sig, Champ. You get rid
of your "MCT" number and then people assume you don't _know_ that you're a
middle-class tosser and that they have to tell you.

It's extremely difficult, usually impossible, for most people to trace their
lineage back any earlier than the mid 17th Century and even getting that far
back can be a bit of a nightmare.

Well that won't hurt... the last time I tried to call out a plumber the
rotten swines wanted £75+VAT per hour plus parts, told me that they'd have
to drain down my entire heating system to fix the problem, and that all in
it'd take about 5 hours to sort it out. I called various companies all of
whom gave me basically the same response.

Bollox to that, my handyman and I rented a big pipe freezing kit from Travis
Perkins, bought the new components required and did it ourselves in a little
under two hours. This cost me in total (rental, labour, parts) about £55.
I'm sure anyone would agree that this was far better than lobbing out the
£450 or so estimated by the proper plumber rip off merchants.

Mine only goes back three generations. My great grandfather was an orphan.
He worked on the Danish boats as a pilot. Then came here to work for the New
Zeland Shipping company. Died on a boat.
My Grandad and great uncle (died on a boat) worked there too, and on the
docks. My uncle died in the war (he was a sailor) died on
the Samkey in the bermuda triangle. My dad is an oceanmaster and does boat
deliveries. Had a few rescues etc.
I was on the Herald of Free enterprise exactly a week before it sank! That
    was close enough for me.
    I hate boats!!

My whole family is related to Uncle Albert by the looks of it.
