Bollocks. It goes 70 -> 50 -> 30 -> 50 -> 30, with cameras in both 30 zones north/east bound, but only the first 30 going towards glasgow. They're also bright yellow.
Again in Lancashire, there's a camera on the A680, heading into Edenfield village from the moors, enforcing the 40-zone (which in 200 metres or so becomes a 30-zone). The placing for the unit's a bit odd; it enforces a 40-zone just before it becomes a 30 zone, and by rights nobody in their right mind would be much over 40 at that point anyway. [1] Anyway, I noticed the other night (and confirmed today) that it seems to have suffered a little "accident"; the top and bottom of the casing are charred as if from application of a flammable liquid of some sort. Whoever did the dirty deed didn't do a particularly good job of it; this was no car-tyre necklacing job or anything like it; I doubt the unit is even damaged by the act. Still, someone round there doesn't like Gatsos, and last week one on the way into Accrington got vandalised, too. (The head was rotated to point away from the road. Probably drunks on their way home from the pub...) [1] Lancashire speed cameras are sometimes put in the oddest of places; there's one in Padiham that enforces a 30-zone going out of the town; said limit becomes a 40 zone about 150 metres after the end of the enforcement zone. Simply put, the placement is bloody stupid. Turned around the other way, enforcing the 30 limit coming into the village, it would be in a sensible position. I just think some silly bugger planned it out and wrote the wrong direction down on the plans, and the workmen (in their usual unquestioning way) put it up as described. It doesn't make revenue, it doesn't enforce much of a zone; it doesn't do much of anything save stop people flooring it for about 100 metres more that they'd normally do.
cust97.manc.broadband.ntl.com>, spouted forth into uk.rec.driving... That is exactley what it is there for, to catch the stupid who don't see it, and acelerate into the 40, rather than waiting till past the sign before accelerating.
The road obviously. You haven't been through some of the google goups archives of this group have you, before you go at me about being pro-camera. BTW, have only been driving 3 years, but I haven't had a crash, I haven't been flashed by a camera or pulled over for a chat, and I don't always stick to the speed limit. It is possible to do, but it is getting harder.
Between Brayfield, Denton and Yardley Hastings. Its not in Denton at all. Its in Yardley Hastings. http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=486360&y=256680&z=5&sv=485000,255000&st=4&ar=Y
Speed limit here was reduced from 60 some time ago. I can't remember if it's 40 or 50 there now, and I don't do that route often enough anymore to check up in the near future (I think it's 40).
If he was doing the one, he wouldn't need to look for the other. I'm still undecided about cameras as, in my experience, I haven't yet come across any that I actually have a problem with. Mobile cameras are slightly different.
Well that's bollocks isn't it? How do you constructively spend your concentration percentage simultaneously watching vehicles in front, road hazards, etc while also guessing which road sign there's potentially a gatso hidden behind?
By doing the speed limits in 30, 40s and occasionally 50's? Anyway, you left out "whilst furiously wanking".
Look at this list of cameras on roads I rode on today: http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/Web/corporate/pages.nsf/Links/3D996568AA6F1F2280256B670046D3FA The majority of them are on NSL roads. This I disagree with. If it's safe to do 70 then it's safe to do most speeds.
I would disagree with that some what. Due to the state of some dual carriageways (A14 passed Ipswich for one) it's only safe to do 120 at most.
Most are big A roads, a few are dual. And yes, I know 60 is the limit on single A roads. Point still valid though I think.
