A1184 Opposite Rowney Gardens near Straw Hat restaurant SAWBRIDGEWORTH
    Speed Limit: 40
Two new static's one each way right on Herts\Essex border signs up but
no markings yet. London bound just around a bend, Cambridge bound
    slightly obscured by pedestrian lights.

A132 Wickford bound just past layby Wickford
    Speed Limit: 40
Exsisting record 664,"On leaving the A127 road towards Wickford one
camera on the left....". They have now put up a "grey camera" (12ft in
front of the above) on the same side of the road but facing Basildon
bound towards the A127, Erected within the last 6 months

    Kingwood High street Kingswood
    Speed Limit: 30
Coming into kingswood from the ring road there is a new speed camera
mounted on a large pole so no one can vandalise it. There were no road
markings down so I don't know if it is a traffic calming measure.

    Brislington
    Speed Limit: 30
Just before you come to the Honda garage on the left the speed camera
has been replaced with a new, smaller one mounted on a pole so no one
    can vandalise it.

    A80 Moodiesburn Cumbernauld
    Speed Limit: 30
I endorse 2606. This is a deceptive stretch of road where traffic is
meant to suddenly slow from 70mph on dual carriageway to 30 mph limit
also on dual carriageway and there are cameras under a pedestrian
    flyover to catch you out.

A420 Towards Kingswood (going up the hill) Kingswood

    that ? Cheers Barry Small

A6 behind 30 sign at both ends of village Ambergate
    Speed Limit: 60

A69 Greenhead bank eastbound side halfway down the bank Gilsland

Binfield rd about 100 yards past jocks lane rec ground Bracknell
    Speed Limit: 30
Coming from Binfield into Bracknell about 100 yards past jocks lane rec

opposite the pub, painted bright yellow so you shouldn't miss it.

MARINE PARADE WEST 20yards past large slipway on sea front GOSPORT
    Speed Limit: 30
A truvelo speed camera has just gone active on the sea front marine
parade west at Lee on Solent about 20 yards past the large slipway
facing east but covering both sides of the road. The speed camera is
supposed to be set to activate (flash) at 36 mph but don't risk it

A28 Ashford Road, Bethersden South East of Village, 200 yds before 50
    limit Ashford (6 miles)
    Speed Limit: 40
White transit van, unmarked on the rear. (Not high body version) Black &
White Speed Camera signs on offside of van. Parked completely off the
road on the grass verge. All doors & windows closed. No one around,
looks like any normal parked van

    M6 Lancaster Roadwork's M6 Lancaster
    Speed Limit: 50
All Camera's On M6 Between Lancaster And Carnforth Are Deactivated, The
Lot Have Been Taken Down, As Have The Roadwork's, Its Back To The Normal
    Speed Again!

Wingletye Lane 150yds off the A127 towards Hornchurch
    Speed Limit: 30
Coming off the A127 (London bound) towards Hornchurch there is a small
slip road. This I suppose could be deemed a 'good' deterrent as there
are two schools in the area, however, the camera is not that obvious as
is masked by tree. The change of speed from fast A127 to urban limit
catches a lot of people out.

Portland Road, Shirebrook. Near the White Swan pub close to town centre.
    Shirebrook
    Speed Limit: 30
one on either side of road between junctions of Ashbourne St and Market
St no signs forewarning of them.

    A24 Morden Road Morden
    Speed Limit: 30
Rear facing camera, switch able for either direction, coming out of
town, its just after the bridge over the tram link, heading towards
town, it is visible just after the roundabout in Morden

    Doddington Road Lincoln
    Speed Limit: 40
Two new speed cameras have sprung up on Doddington Road in Lincoln. One
in each direction. Doddington Road runs between the A46 and Tritton
Road. Knowing something of the history of the road I doubt very much
these comply with home office guidelines with regards to the number of
accidents over a set period of time at the locations of the cameras.

A548 towyn road at bottom of bridge Rhyl
    Speed Limit: 30
this camera is to deprive holidaymakers of money

Shieldhall road at the sewer works Glasgow
    Speed Limit: 30
    blue GATSO camera

Leabridge road just before the bakers arms railway bridge Leyton
    Speed Limit: 30
There are two cameras on this road, one heading towards the railway
bridge. And one in the opposite direction just past the bridge.

    Bollocks. It goes 70 -> 50 -> 30 -> 50 -> 30, with cameras in both 30
zones north/east bound, but only the first 30 going towards glasgow.

    They're also bright yellow.

  5. Again in Lancashire, there's a camera on the A680, heading into Edenfield
village from the moors, enforcing the 40-zone (which in 200 metres or so
    becomes a 30-zone).

The placing for the unit's a bit odd; it enforces a 40-zone just before it
becomes a 30 zone, and by rights nobody in their right mind would be much
over 40 at that point anyway. [1]

Anyway, I noticed the other night (and confirmed today) that it seems to
have suffered a little "accident"; the top and bottom of the casing are
charred as if from application of a flammable liquid of some sort.

Whoever did the dirty deed didn't do a particularly good job of it; this
was no car-tyre necklacing job or anything like it; I doubt the unit is
even damaged by the act. Still, someone round there doesn't like Gatsos,
and last week one on the way into Accrington got vandalised, too. (The
head was rotated to point away from the road. Probably drunks on their way
    home from the pub...)

    [1] Lancashire speed cameras are sometimes put in the oddest of places;
there's one in Padiham that enforces a 30-zone going out of the town; said
limit becomes a 40 zone about 150 metres after the end of the enforcement
    zone.

Simply put, the placement is bloody stupid. Turned around the other way,
enforcing the 30 limit coming into the village, it would be in a sensible
    position.

I just think some silly bugger planned it out and wrote the wrong direction
down on the plans, and the workmen (in their usual unquestioning way) put
    it up as described.

It doesn't make revenue, it doesn't enforce much of a zone; it doesn't do
much of anything save stop people flooring it for about 100 metres more
    that they'd normally do.

  6. cust97.manc.broadband.ntl.com>, spouted forth
    into uk.rec.driving...
That is exactley what it is there for, to catch the stupid who don't see
it, and acelerate into the 40, rather than waiting till past the sign
    before accelerating.

Which would you like. The diver watching the road or for speed cameras?

  8. The road obviously.

You haven't been through some of the google goups archives of this
group have you, before you go at me about being pro-camera.

BTW, have only been driving 3 years, but I haven't had a crash, I
haven't been flashed by a camera or pulled over for a chat, and I don't
always stick to the speed limit. It is possible to do, but it is getting
    harder.

  10. Speed limit here was reduced from 60 some time ago.
    I can't remember if it's 40 or 50 there now, and I don't do that route
often enough anymore to check up in the near future (I think it's 40).

If he was doing the one, he wouldn't need to look for the other.

I'm still undecided about cameras as, in my experience, I haven't yet come
across any that I actually have a problem with.

    Mobile cameras are slightly different.

Well that's bollocks isn't it? How do you constructively spend your
concentration percentage simultaneously watching vehicles in front, road
hazards, etc while also guessing which road sign there's potentially a gatso
    hidden behind?

By doing the speed limits in 30, 40s and occasionally 50's? :)

Anyway, you left out "whilst furiously wanking".

I would disagree with that some what. Due to the state of some dual
carriageways (A14 passed Ipswich for one) it's only safe to do 120 at
    most.

Most are big A roads, a few are dual. And yes, I know 60 is the limit
on single A roads. Point still valid though I think.
