So, how many of the 20 vehicles on test will have (rear-end) accidents?
Especially going from, say, a 50 into a 30 zone?

If he's sticking to the speed limit, right up his arse. Other drivers will
not generally be aware that the vehicles are fitted with this technology, so
it will be perceived as a behaviour of the driver. This will increase
irritation and risk-taking behaviour in other drivers.

  7. Driving back from Gatwick last night.
I approached a truck being followed by a people carrier.
    Neither indicating.
I have cruise switched on, set to 70.

I indicate to overtake the truck. Half way through the overtake a
vehicle in front of the truck, that had indicated to turn off and had
joined the exit lane, changes it's mind.
It pulls out in front of the truck with a big negative speed
    differential.
Behind me the people carrier has already pulled out, unaware of the
problem and is starting to overtake the truck.
Truck indicates to pull out while braking hard.
I drop from 6th to 4th and accelerate hard passing the truck and giving
    it room to move out.
The people carrier brakes for the truck to pull out.
I for a moment exceeded the speed limit to prevent a possible accident.
Not possible with this gadget fitted.

For those pendants who have 20 20 hind sight, they would have done
something different. But this was reality.

I can't imagine it'll put the brakes on, so much as stop the car
accelerating, so going from 50 to 30 there would just be no power
available until the car was down to below 30.

Yes it is, you just turn it off.

Well, you could have braked as well, since if it was a car I'm damn
sure it brakes faster than it accelerates.

Look, no one is going to put these things on cars without them being
disabled in 30 seconds flat. I wouldn't worry about it.

  11. [1]Do you think the powers that be will let you? It's for your own good
    after all.
But there was a people carrier behind me that only just got out of the
    way by braking.
    See [1] above ;-)
