Just been browsing the AA website as going to France / Spain soon and they
seem to be saying that bikes have an upper speed limit of less than cars -

    I quote "Motorcycles 80 (49) outside built-up areas and 100 (62) on
motorways. " (kph and mph respectively)

First I've heard of this... !!!!

Can anyone confirm for sure what the rules are please ?

    Thanks,

    Nick

    Nick fumbled, fiddled and fingered:

    for France ....

"Lower speed limits of 49 mph (80 km/h) outside built-up areas, 62 mph
(100 km/h) on dual carriageways and 68 mph (110 km/h) on motorways apply
in *wet weather* and to visiting motorists who have held a driving
licence for less than *two* years"

Don't know about Spain, but France is 130/110 (motorway depending on
    wet/dry), 110/100(dual carriageway), 90/80(single carriageway), 50(towns)
    with signed exceptions.

That said, try doing 50 in a town and you'll get tailgated to the
    extreme/run over....

French driving is, off motorways, a bit 'macho'... For all drivers, male
    and female alike.

Motorways, however, are a bit less so and driver awareness is, on the whole,
better towards bikes than the UK so it's easy to make progress...

    Nope, not April 1st...

    Fuckin' hope it ain't true...

Besides, I never bother with the conversion; if it says "100", then
    that's what I do.

    "Yo tambien, señor"

    (me too)
10-20-30 in special (pedestrian) areas, 50 in built-up areas, 90 on
roads without side emergency lanes, 100 on roads with, 120 on highways.
That is in case you obey the law. If not, just observe quantum
    mechanics.
