Near Angouleme - seems a little harsh, going off at 140kph like that.

I thought the weather in France was supposed to be nice in August ...
had to stop to fit contact lenses at the side of the A28, in the
middle of a downpour, as my specs kept steaming up.

Weather seems much better in the deep south, thankfully.

Yes, they are very tight, especially when there is a lot of traffic. I
have hadreports of people nicked for 1kph above the limit (actually 1kph
avove the limit plus 5%, because they deduce a 5% error margin).
    It won't last :)

That's what I was going to do this year.... thanks for the reminder
    wee man.

Looks like it should be fun.

That is very unfriendly. I was unable to trigger the one on the N10
neqr Labouheyre, as a previously manic soul in an Audi S5 braked like
he`d hit wall, nearly ending up with a Wing shaped boot ornament.
Bit grey atm. Woken this morning by a herd of cows grazing at the back
door. For want of a better phrase.

Arrived at the hotel in Tours too late for dinner, so were forced to
eat in a ¨Quick¨ restuarant. That`s that box ticked, in the ¨never
    again¨ column.

Loads of old VW campers on the road yesterday, plus one poor soul in a
homemade Kubelwagen kit car thing. Sounded like it was based on an old
    Beetle.

How do you French sorts cope with these keyboards? Nothing`s where it
    should be.

I remember having to give up and ask the local café owner where the hell
the @ key was on his keyboard.

I had that somewhere foreign but there wasn't anyone around to ask. Spain
IIRC, in an internet cafe where you put a euro in a slot. I ended up using
copy & paste from a webpage. I've since learnt to expeiment with Alt Gr.

  10. I couldn't find a backslash on the Spanish keyboard in Chile recently.

It was marked, but nobody, but nobody could figure out how to access it.
I needed it for logging into my work email.

Eventually went to Google, typed 'backslash' and c&p'd it into the login
    page.

    Bunch of arse.

  11. I had that in der .ch -- twice IIRC. Tho' the margin was 5 km/h
    not 5% (so 56 in a 50 and 76 in a 70 I think...).

Correct. And then there's a further 25kph band in which you're
relatively safe, as it's just a simple calculation and an automatic
fine, with no court or possibility of license suspension. I was
recently done for 108 in an 80[1] zone, so narrowly escaped, and that
would have been the second one in four years, so would certainly have
    had me worried.

[1] After living and working here for nearly ten years, I honestly
didn't realise that the "national speed limit" for single-track roads
was 80, rather than 90 as it is in France and Germany. D'oh!

Good grief, even that 90kph limit is ludicrous. I vote for 110 wet and 130
    dry. Everywhere.

    Well yes, of course.
It's not just the levels that are flawed, but the basic concept. On
most roads your limits sound reasonable, but autoroutes and some other
    dual carriageways should be unlimited.
