Speed Cameras & Bike Mounted Detectors

  1. URL? I think you'll find the only cases that ever reached court were
under the guise of "perverting the course of justice" in which case it's
likely that the offender was taking the piss (multiple times through the
    same manned camera for example).

Please DO correct me if I'm out of date.
A fully faired and luggaged Pan Euro. I asked about stealth remove - he
replied that he had no intention of removing the devices at all, let
    alone in a hurry.
I hear you - but such devices do exist, so there's no reason for me to
disbelieve the guy. He certainly wasn't of the age
group/mentality/style/intelligence to be bragging from an egotistical
    bravado point of view.

I found his card in my bag the other day and dropped him an email - if
he gets in touch, I'll see if he wants to embellish any further details.

  2. In uk.rec.motorcycles, Doesnotcompute amazed us all with this pearl of
    wisdom:
But that's not what you said before, you said "Technically it would be
against the radio/wireless communications act -
but, IIRC, not one case has made it into a law court yet." The guise as
you put it is irrelevant, the fact is that people with laser jammers
    have ended up in court.
I'm not denying that such devices exist, I've seen them, I was merely
stating that to hide from a copper that's just zapped you with a laser
gun would be very difficult if not impossible.

I first looked into getting a detector a couple of years ago and all the
talk then was about how the law will be changing. Over that time, nothing
has happened. Also it was only going to apply to radar detectors and not
    laser detectors.

No doubt as soon as I go and buy one, thinking all the rumours are just
that, then the law will change.

Last time I looked (some time ago, granted...), the Bel 966r was the one
    to have for bike-mounting. http://www.beldirect.co.uk/bel966r_mb.htm

However, as Paul Varnsverry points out elsewhere in this thread, the
cops now have much better laser units which, unless you're prepared to
risk running a jammer as well, are well nigh impossible to beat in one-
on-one situations, i.e. on an open road and you're the solitary target.
This particular Bel model is quite old, too and the tests have not been
    updated for some time

K40 have some decent solutions, largely aimed at the high-end car
market. This would be my choice if 1) I had the cash and 2) it was
Euro-spec'd which I don't see as an option on their site.
    http://www.k40.com/Products/Radar/UndetectableDualRemote.html

Besides, as others have mentioned, moves are afoot to outlaw detectors
here in the UK and it remains to be seen if GPS devices will or won't be
    affected.

FWIW, most all my "zaps" have been in situations where the traffic has
been more dense and typically from the mobile "safety" units one sees in
Northants and Bedforshire. All too easy to find your speed creep up to
/just/ above the threshold when everyone around you is doing the same.

I use an old Snooper S5 in the car, but nothing on the bike. Have only
once been done for speeding on a bike and that was, in all places, on
    the IoM.

  6. Any evidence to confirm that? and that it was solely the use of the
jammer that resulted in the prosecution.

  7. This guy got a caution in 2004, cut and pasted from website:
    ----------------------------------------------------

Surrey Police has issued a warning to drivers that the use of 'laser
jammers' remains illegal and will not be tolerated on the county's roads.
The call comes following the Force's first arrest last month when a
30-year-old Staines man was arrested for using the device to stop police
officers with speed detection devices recording his vehicle's speed when
undertaking enforcement checks on the A308 Staines by-pass on 25th February.

In this case, the driver's index was taken, he was traced to his home
address, arrested, and the jamming device seized. He returned on bail to
Staines Police Station this week where he was cautioned for obstructing a
constable in the execution of his duty.

Caution, suggest to me that they don't have the evidence. A radar
jammer definitely contravenes the wireless telegraphy act(s) but I
remain to be convinced about laser jammers.

I have a Road Angel which I put under the seat of the Blade, I have a
little box of tricks my uncle made up, it converts the audio output into
a flashing LED which I have mounted in the fairing, cost about £2
there's a guy on Fleabay who sells them for £59.95 a pop. If you want
the diagram I'm sure he (uncle) will let me have it.
