    Speed camera and car stolen
    July 22, 2004 - 8:15AM

A speed camera and the car carrying it have been stolen from the side
of a road in north-west Melbourne.

The incident occurred on the Melton Highway at Sydenham about 8.30pm
    yesterday.

A speed camera operator was loading camera equipment into a Toyota
RAV-4 four-wheel drive parked on the side of the road when a man
approached and began talking to the operator, a Victoria Police
    spokeswoman said.

While the operator was at the back of the car, the man got behind the
wheel and drove away, she said.

He was described as being of southern European appearance, about 25
years old and 1.7m tall, with a medium build, tanned complexion and
    short, black hair.

He wore blue denim jeans and a dark jacket.

I guess he was really, really pissed off with having a happy snap taken.

May the charred remains be found suitably buried somewhere far, far
    away.

Two observations. Didn't the Victorians outsource this work to private
security contractors? Are these rentacop guys armed? Why didn't he hold onto
the guy who distracted him for questioning? Well maybe he did, you don't
know from the story. But it does weaken the argument to privatise the
    operation.
    Like that narrows it down!

Ok Dave first of all you can take your foot out of your mouth and put it
    back on the ground....

The company that actually has been contracted to provide mobile camera
services for the Victorian Police Force is Tenix and in no way are they a
Security company. As far as I know the operators that man the camera cars
are not licensed Security Guards and requirement for them to be either.
As for the rentacop comment why don't you actually stick to playing with
dolls or whatever turns you on and leave the rest of the world to actually
get on with earning an honest living, whether you agree with their choice of
    profession or not is irrelevant.

I apologise wholeheartedly Mister Tenix CEO sir. Obviously skulking around
behind trees catching those lunatics doing 65kph is a lofty vocation well
beyond my wildest dreams of aspiration.

Its clearly a tough job. We've all seen glimpses as we go past, struggling
to get through to the sports pages. I don't think I could commit to the
arduous training regimen they endure, they must be Supermen!

Guys make sure you salute these heroes of the highway next time you see
    them.

Exactly where did you see me say I agree with the way camera cars are used
or even if I think they are a good idea?
What gives you the idea that I would work for a company that is paid to
enforce laws in such a way that the general public going about their own
lives are penalised for a minor thing such as exceeding the speed limit by a
    few kph?
I am not suggesting you have to like it nor agree with the way it is done
but rather lay blame at the feet of the faceless bureaucrats that make the
laws and not the person that is going to work everyday rather that sit on
their arse getting the dole. and no I am not an employee of either the
    Victorian Police Force or Tenix.
Stick to what you know or ask informed questions and if in doubt keep your
    opinions to yourself.
If you want to ask me any more questions I am more than happy to reply off
    list.

Unless they've flogged the contract off it's LMT, a joint venture
between Lockheed Martin and Tenix. You are correct that Tenix are not a
security company, they are primarily a defence contracting company.
Aww come on Unky, you know we all love you security guard types <grin>

    The facts:
But one year earlier John Howard offered George Bush a blank cheque just

United States in relation to any action that might be taken."

    Gee thanks Mr Littler,
actually just got a new job and directly across the road is the Tenix
facility that the camera cars operate out from.
You might be right about the Lockheed Martin thingy I have never taken much
notice other than it being advertised that Tenix were the operators of the
    cars.

Now come here and play with my baton big boy.....
