Does anyone know if these can detect bikes yet?

All the SPECS I have seen are front facing. No doubt this is being
thought about but they want to see car drivers faces if possible.

Proof? as forward facing cameras do not record motorcycle number plates

The temporary ones in the roadworks on the M11 were facing in both
    directions last month.

What you want to worry about is the new SPICS system.

It's a greasy geezer and a mobile phone:

"'Allo? Yes! Issa SPICS bloke onna M1 here! Dere's a bika goin' like a
cun', innit? Yes! Issa da Ay Bee Cee, One-a Two-a Free. Ee's goin' like
    a bat outa da hell!"

  8. some of the sites now have cameras reading the rear plates as well as
the front plates , usally in city centres where they are linked to
multple camera banks (i think sheffields one place thats set up like
    that )

That's an assertion, not a proof.

I parsed that subject line as "SPICS" and thought that they were out to
    get me...

I was thinking more specifically of the A77 which is where I was
travelling yesterday. I don't think my average speed was above the 60
as I was mainly tootling along with the GF on the back and a full top
    box on the rack.

I had a look on the SPECS website but all I could see was the 5 slide
presentation on how it works but that only covered cars.

Well I guessed you were thinking of the A77. I've been up it at eeek
speed on the B12 with no NIP in the post.
Yes the cameras point in both directions at each point but they are
    covering opposite lanes.

The 77 cameras can't get bikes. I travel it everyday. :)

They've paid so much to get them installed I think it'll be a while before
they can any others. There was much criticism of them because the can't
get bikes when they went up.

Why would anyone want bikes clocked anyway? it's not as if they often
hurt anyone other than the rider
