Many thanks to Bill for the SR250 I collected tonight in the back of my
car. It went in after we;d removed the topbox, front wheel and mudguard.

Now, what to do with it? I was toying with ideas of building an
identical one for myself and giving the original to my eldest because
she's been nagging at me - she wants it because it's the same age as
she is and she thinks it's pretty.

However, I think I might Cafe-racer this one. XS250 tank with the same
style paintwork as I have on the other one, 60s style race seat,
clip-ons, rearsets, drilled everything for lightness, simple polished
alloy sheet front mudguard and a reverse cone mega exhaust with a
    Norton style downpipe.

    Opinions?

  2. Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, Lozzo
Do it. If it's done to the same standard as the Spazztrakka, it'll be a
    thing of considerable beauty.

Do it. It will no doubt be a cracking job. Don't forget to stick a nice
polished ali 'velocity stack/bellmouth' on the carb instead of a filter
though. Finishing touches and all that....

I thought you asked for it claiming you wanted it for spares for your
    other SR?

This one will be betterer. I'm going to have the frame and all
bracketry powder coated and the wheels rebuilt with 18" alloy rims and
stainless spokes. RD250LC fork sliders and caliper, with an RD250B
front hub and disc (it all bolts straight in). Stainless steel nuts and
bolts wherever I can too. I think Mark at MHP is going to have a little
job to do for me as well, as I trust him to make me a decent looking
    and proper fitting downpipe.

I did, but it's much better than mine other one was before I started on
it, it'd be a waste to break it. Bill seriously overstated the bad
condition of it, it's far from being a wreck.

That looks totally original. Very nice squezze into the car too Sir ;>)
One of my old XS650SEs had that colour scheme and style of tank/seat too.
For your info though, a 30mm Dellorto makes a big difference in 'pick-up' to
those engines. I had an XT250 for a while and the carb was missing when I
got it. Being skint/tight, I used a spare Guzzi carb with no jetting changes
at all. Ran really well for >18mths until I killed the cam when I bashed a
rock when offroading and pissed most of the oil out unnoticed.

It is virtually all original and in pretty good nick for 48,000 miles,
and the engine sounds as sweet as the one I've just rebuilt for my
other one. The silencer is about all that's non-standard.

Thanks for the tip re the carb, I'll search one out.

I think that this one, like the original SpazzTrakka, will be a keeper.

It would be totally different in looks to the flat-track style one.
Based on exactly the same type of bike, but one will be very upright
and off-roady and the other a back lane scratcher.

If I find I have too many, Caz has already blagged the original one.

Do it the idea sounds great.
Just make sure its a 5 gallon polished alloy tank.
And it has to be a Pride & Clarke reverse cone mega.

I can't really sell them. Both the SRs were given to me by ukrmers and
all I've put in to them is a fair few hours, a bit of cash and knuckle
skin. What they are actually worth to sell is far more than their total
cost in cash to me, and I'd feel a bit bad for making money from
    another person's generosity.

So that rules out selling them, and I'm not about to put that many
hours into a project only to break even. If that was the case someone
would be getting a brilliant little SpazzTrakka for 300 quid with a
rebuilt engine, fully repainted with tax and MOT for a year.

I'm toying with LC250 fork lowers on the SR stanchions, or maybe just
using the complete forks, with an RD250B front wheel and disc. All that
lot bolts straight in with no mods and everything lines up.
