Spare parts: what's too much?

I've been offered a completely stripped down K100 at a relatively cheap
price. Aside from the storage space required to store all the parts, are
there any other negatives to storing a second complete bike in the
thinking that some day parts of it may come in handy? I'm doing 50k km a
year on a K100, which is why I'm interested in acquiring the second bike
for spares. How would I have to store them?

    Mine are stored in boxes...

Box the bits in sturdy boxes - I use plastic crates - and keep a book
with a list of what part is in which box. Clean them before storing,
put corrosion inhibitor on as well.

Whether its worth it depends on how long you think you'll have your
bike, what condition the parts are in, and how hard they will be to get.

I've got a heap of 30yo parts for a relatively rare bike, parts for a
10yo popular bike will be easier.

Me, I figure packratism is a good thing, if you have the garage space,
    do it!

  3. Not real likely Biggus, nobody steals K100s. Dont need any extra security
is a real good thing when you park them in public.

People chain them to poles to stop the poles getting stolen.

I've got most of the spare XLV sprayed with WD40, wrapped
in newspaper and packed into banana boxes in the shed. Doesn't
    seem to have rusted.

  5. Banana boxes are good like that. I'll bring you some more for your
    collection.
