I'm 'retiring' my Freeserve account since I moved ISP for broadband.
I currently get about 200 spam e-mails per day on it, although that
obviously only works out at about 18000 for a three month period.

I'm guessing that if I just let it fill up then Freeserve will
eventually remove it, because I'm certainly not logging in just
to delete spam e-mails and hence also keep the account live.

I haven't checked my old email accounts for some time some I popped in
via a proxy server to see what's there. More than forty one thousand
spams in less than 3 months. Or put another way about 90Mbyte worth.

Had to deal with 1400 spams after the Xmas break. Seems ISP s just
can't do anything about them - all the anti spam s/w I have tried has
been flaky and of course only work at the client level - after the
    event.

I used to get over 200+ spams a day. This morning I had only 10 spams.
The spam filter for the ISP I work for does a pretty effective job.

My ISP's spam filter still sends all the SPAM through but with [PROBABLE
SPAM] prepended to the subject - leaving the end-user still to deal with
    checking/deleting.

Is this the way other ISPs deal with it?

Ours has that option, but after a while I was convinced nothing was
getting marked falsely so I just selected to have them deleted at
    source.

  8. To be honest, that is my prefered way of dealing with it. It takes the
emphasis off the ISP for false positives/false negatives, which is
A Good Thing in my opinion. But, it requires a non-brain-dead approach
to getting the headers of emails rather than downloading the entire
    lot...

Indeedy. I Got a letter from Demon over the holidays saying they're
going to introduce spam filtering. As I was reading it, I'd got the
Halleluja Chorus ringing in my ears.

I only get one or two a day now on my main accounts. I'll correct that.

Depending on the collective size of the things, could they not be put to
good use for training Bayesian filters?

Depends on the ISP, really. There is server-side filtering out there and
it does, on the whole, work. Depends if the ISP has sufficient clue to
    make it work properly.
