When is spam not spam, say I wanted to tell all on this usernet some great
news about a person who is a rep for a company that sells motorcycle
orientated products, how can I do this without it being called spam.

if he is a rep it sounds like he works for a distributor, which means that
you can't (or shouldn't be able to) buy products direct, so i guess it isn't
    spam

Ok then that is the case as you cannot buy direct and must go thru a rep
    interesting.

    huh?

I thought distributors sell to shops, then the public buy from the shops

only problem is that if the shop finds out the distributor is selling
direct, why would the shop then stock their product?

And all is happy as there is some things the bike shop would not like to do
or will not do, the company is very directed to customer direction in all
    ways.

Further more the shop can have the right to be the sole seller in his area
which is a great insentive in the modern market.

If you're worried about what people will call you, then aus.moto is not
    for you! Piss off.

Well, it depends. If the great news is that Jim-Bob says that
Tire Flys Super Pro Race Evo Edition are now in stock at $150.99
    each, it's spam.

If the great news is that JustAl says we can all have free stuff
any time we want because we're so nice, it's probably still spam,
    but who cares?

There are, of course, grey areas. Baron von Legrooter gets around
the problem by deputizing about half of aus.moto as Leg Rootin'
Leathers agents, and therefore getting the other half to all write
in and complain (any publicity is good publicity, eh Boris?)

And the occasional ads for Hamish's Slightly Used Medical Supply
Warehouse ("When you think Haemostats, think Hammos Tatts!")
seem to be forgiven, perhaps because they're written in Martian.

If in doubt, offer us all a 15% discount and a free test ride.

    X-No-archive: yes
If it's great news then it's news (and belongs in a newsgroup).

If it's an advertisement then it's spam (and belongs in spamlist).

    What was the question again?

You're just worried he's going to do you out of all those valuable
    LED torch sales!

Do you find that you have to do it to everyone in the shop or just the
    owner?
