It was the last 100kms that did me in. :-( Then again, they say
"that which doesn't kill you makes you stronger"...
Kurrajong from now on wins my vote too.

Heh. I did 1800km over the 4 days I gave myself for this weekend.
Probably about 400km of it on dirt too.

And only 1 broken mirror a rear mudguard to show for it too. The rear
guard from hitting a hole hard enough so that it snapped the guard off
its mounts (hmm, those R1200GS guards are a bit fragile looking, but
perhaps a loose strap I had forgotten to tie down got tangled and
ripped it off. Unlikely, because nothing was pulled loose from the
strap being yanked, and there were no tangles by the time I stopped).
The broken mirror from failing to put my foot down solidly enough.

I have no idea how BMW constructed the mirror - I've got one with
smashed glass, and I've got another spare one snapped off at the base.
I should be able to merge them, right? The stem goes up through the
mirror body, with a nut inside the mirror body locking the stem into
its ball socket. The glass is retained by a lip over the body. It is
one moulded piece. The nut had to be tightened with the glass not in
place. Then the rest of the body somehow had to be moulded around it.
No, there is no sign of flex - it would be impossible to just push the
    glass into place.

Yeah, but you're a SERIOUS biker. I got sore muscles just reading
    about your journey. :)

My r100 mirrors are two parts glued together, have a close look for an
almost invisible line right around the outer extremities,if there is, a
knife blade ,saw or some such might separate them. it can be glued back
together again with methylene chloride (solvent)or various other glues.

You could have pushed it (downhill!) to the gate before starting it, but noooo..... :)
