Space to leave for Back Protector?

    Hello loves.

I'm thinking of purchasing the RST "Propelle Jacket" + trousers
    (http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/resources/images/zoom/RST450.jpg black
or red?) and I've noticed that the Jacket has CE approved armour for
elbows and shoulders, but I notice there is no mention of any kind of
    spinal protection.

On the grounds that even my cheapo jacket I'm currently wearing (I'm
aiming to get a high concentration of dead wildlife on it before it
gets washed) has upper spinal armour, I think it's probably a good
idea to have some king of back protector on this jacket.

I have a 49" chest, and the jacket comes in at a maximum of 54". How
much space should I allow for back protection? I'll probably only
wear it on longer rides/going out to play/shit weather.

    Yeah right!
54" is too small IMHO, unless you plan on riding in a T shirt only,
however it will allow you to sqeeze a back protector in.

Jacket sizing varies so much that I'd never buy one off the internet unless
I had tried one on at a show or something. As a short arse I have to hunt
around for a jacket that is big enough to go around me but has short enough
    arms.

When I bought a cordura jacket I spent 4 hours in Bristol trawling around
J&S, Heinz Gherkin, Fowlers et al. I ended up taking a chance with a Riossi
jacket from Motorcycle City as it was the only one that fitted that was in
    my sub £150 price bracket.

Also, didn't Linger post about RST seams bursting in a crash
    Ah, yes, http://tinyurl.com/7olaa

I'll have to look around a few motorcycle shoppes, my local stocks
loads of Akito stuff, but not much of anything else.

I wonder where my nearest large accessory store is. Hmm.

I always have the problem of long legs = really thin peep in them,
    whereas I'm not.
I'll have a hunt to see if I can find anywhere that lists major
motorcycle retailers in my area. I need to go to somewhere that
    carries a large selection.
Single stitched? FFS. I think there should be a British Standard
style mark with various grades displayed. I don't know what the ****
    I'm buying.*

Although my RST gloves survived my Road Polishing with just the
knuckle armour fucked (Must have whacked my head/helmet on to my hand
when I was heading towards the road) and some small abrasions on the
    palm.

Are Alpine and RST related? Their logos are similar.

    *No change there.

If you can get to one of these:
    http://www.infinitymotorcycles.com/stores.asp
They seem to have a load of Belstaff jackets. E.g. Turbo jacket half price
at £99. Up to size 50".

They were formed from the ashes of Motorcycle City so probably have a
warehouse full of bankrupt stock to clear. You might get yourself a
    bargain.

The AlpineStars Sphere jacket is available in fucking huge sizes, up to
    60".

I've found that my biggest problem with a back protector is actually the
waistband of my leather trousers and having enough spare room to stuff the
back protector down and still be able to do them up.

I'm sorry, but after reading that I can only think that you're
boasting about the size of your organ being too large around the
    front.

I am, however, high on far too much niccotine and Red Bull.

  15. You must be on another planet, never mind high, if you think Bee [1]
has a protruding organ round the front. Either that or she's had been
    having secret operations :)

Obviously a good night if you're needing Red Bull to keep you awake.

[1] other wise known as Charlene IIRC

Find a back protector you like. Wear it when you try on the jacket.
Probnably a good idea to wear a sweater at the same time, since you plan
to use it for bad weather, so find a shop with air conditioning.

Anything other than actually trying on the jacket will not produce a
    reliable result.
