    Hi,

My son is almost in a position to buy my mate's bike (son's test is next
    week)...

The bike is SORNed, and has no MOT, in mate's garage. Need to get it
insured, MOT'd, restricted (at same time as MOT) and then taxed.

Son can insure it, and then my insurance will allow me to ride the bike to
the MOT place, but it won't be taxed...

Or son can insure it and ride it to MOT himself, but it won't yet be
    restricted nor have tax...

How is this magic undone, ideally with no laws being broken?

No tax though? Or doesn't it need tax, if SORNed and on way to MOT?

It does not need to be taxed to ride (directly) to the MOT place
    for a pre-booked appointment.
Just phone them and make an appointment.

You didn't really need to find a link to confirm that though, did you?
You presumably know you can't tax a >3 year old bike (or car) without
an MOT, & you also know it's not mandatory (yet) to renew the tax disc
when it expires, so what alternative could there possibly be?

It's not like you're the first person to ask that question here either.
I just find it completely bizarre that people don't know it.

    Pre-book the MOT.

    Simple as that.

    Silly question is now withdrawn...

Obviously you must be able to ride a SORNed bike to an MOT station - how
else can you get it MOT'd and then taxed.

  9. I find it bizarre that people give a shit. The bike's not taxed... oh
dear. What's the worst that can happen?

You get your house smashed up for being a tax avoider?
