Just got back from my hols [1] to find a demand for £25 rising to £45
because of my failure to fill in a SORN declaration on a recently
acquired non-running MZ (and declaring change of keeper).

Didn't realise I had to but apparently Schedule 4 paragraph 6 of The Road
Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations 2002 says I've been
    very naughty.

HTH, in case anyone else finds themselves in a similar SOB moment.

[1] Naples: best described as a decomposing hulk of city inhabited by
    several million anarchists.
Pompeii: like Naples but without the anarchists.

No, it was its friend, I picked up your TS150 and a Supa 5 at the same
time. The 250 I changed the log book on. But failed to declare it
    SORN'd, hence the fine.

as an aside, are you still intent on APE collection?

  6. Ah. I still haven't changed the logbook on the 150, of course.
Waiting for Bike to give it the thumbs-up. So no, probably.

  10. Um, yes. Got flashed doing 45 in a 30.

    I'm hoping:

    1. That the camera wasn't loaded
    2. That if it is, Plod laughs so hard they don't send out an NIP.
    3. If they do send out an NIP, it doesn't find its way to me.

  11. The log book is still in the name of the bod sweller bought it from, and
of course sweller has no idea who he flogged it to, 'cos he stuck it
outside his cave with a "4 SAIL" sign on it.

But I'm not changing the logbook into my name for a while[1], just to be
    sure.

[1] If at all - run it until something else comes along[2] and then flog
    it[3]
[2] MZ ETZ250 for ukp175 looks tempting atm
[3] Hopefully for a small profit.....

    Appeal!
They previous owner had SORN'd the bike (I assume)
It was carried in a transport (big van)

    And remains Off road.

You were unaware (because they haven't notified you!) that you are required
    to SORN the bike.

It is buried in the small print.
You are aware that it required a declaration.
You knew a declaration had been made

You were not aware that an UPDATE to the SORN was required, because they
    don't publicise it!

    So dispute the fine.
Oh yeah and apologise for being on holiday when their letter arrived.

    Worked for me!

First bike was bought SORN and they complained.
Second bike was stolen/burntout/recovered/written off and the insewerance
    forgot (!) to
let DVLA know the bike was no longer in existence, when the tax disk ran out
I got 'fined' for failure to SORN.

Wrote very 'umble sir, very sorry, didn't realise, nobody told me.

    They let me off,

    both times.

    YMMV
