You could try negotiating with Statto - I have two bottles of his
    sitting on the shelf.

  8. I've started researching the idea of buying a barrel, but surprisingly
few distilleries offer this option. Needless to say, unless I end up
with a a quarter cask, it'll be at least 10 years from the date of
purchase until any meanigful amount gets into a bottle.

I could be tempted as well, but if I die, you can pickle me in it.

Good grief, it's only whisky and it's not like it's the best whisky there
ever was. Surely a trip to a supermarket or ordering online from one's
favourite distillery is significantly less bother.

It's not bad, it was (IMHO) very good value, and it's different.
So's getting in a car, mostly.

    Something like that.
Not really. Different experience for a different level of effort.

Our palates differ wildly then, because to me, although it's nice, it
doesn't match what I can get with a few mouse clicks and the same amount
    of spondoolies.

Really? What do you grab for £30? I'm always interested. Particularly as
I tend to find on-line stuff over priced.

And I said 'different' not 'better' ;)

  17. I wasn't meaning Longrow specifically.
Single malt != single barrel and there can be a world of difference
between a cask laid down for private bottling and the generic version
    available in the supermarkets.

My current favourite is Aberfeldy. It's the malt that Dewars use to make
their blended Scotch. The Scotch I can do without, but the malt is
    utterly delicious (to me).
    Good point.

Oooh, where from? I shall keep my eyes open cos in a similar vein,
Strathislay 12yo is mostly used to make Chivas Regal, which I think is a
    terrible waste.
