I did Swansea to Manchester and back a couple of times on a GP100.

The original H1 had some bizarre transistorised jobby which they
dropped in favour of points on subsequent models. My H1E was points
(well, it had a Boyer kit in it, but you get my drift), and the they
went back to electronic on the KH, AFAIK.

Can't remember but now it's mentioned IIRC that one had CDI..

    I _think_ the KH 250 I had, had points ... BICBW. ;)

All the 250s did. The only triples that ever got factory electronic
ignition were the very first H1, the KH400 and the KH500.

    I ran in a rebored/rebuilt TZR125 over a period of three days. 180 miles
a day doesn't sound like much, but when you can't do more than 30mph in
    top, it's shit.

  6. Bloke I knew took his girlfriend to Greece on a CB/CD 175. Damn near got
killed though, when a mad Turkish trucker swiped them off into a field.
Not daunted, he kicked the bike straight, carried on and spent a couple
of months being a beach bum before riding the heap back.

You'll notice the girlfriend is missing from the second half of that
paragraph. She got fed up and fucked off with a Turkish trucker or
    somebody of that ilk.

I used to commute (twice a term, winter and summer) from Leeds to uni in
Bangor, before motorways and with a full term's worth of books and clothes,
a guitar in a hard case, and - always - a fruit cake. Over the Pennines,
through Manc and along the N Wales coast. First year was on a C70 then,
after I passed my test, a Jawa 350 twin. I don't know which was the more
    foolhardy.

This is the point, innit? I used to travel Brighton-Oxford to see my
girlfriend. It's amazing the hardship you'll put up with, as a
teenager[1], in order to to get a shag.

    [1] And beyond....

125 miles each way, over a 48 hour weekend on a FS1E, repeatedly during
my time at Arborfield. After that I went to Tidworth in Wiltshire, so
the journey became even longer. I only did the Tidworth - Leicester -
Tidworth trip once on the FS1E.

    Just to enter the fray;
Birmingham to Barnstaple on an FS1E in one hit

The worst journey was Paul Ricard to Le Havre in one hit, two up on an
R65 BMW jammed in fourth gear. 80 mph was easy the peage was a
    nightmare.

We will send TOG junior home tomorrow after a good breakfast.
I open the bidding at 5hours 30 mins for the return journey.

  13. Oh, I reckon that'll be easier than the outward leg. I say five hours.

I'm envious. There's nothing like getting the far end in sight, on your
first big trip, and thinking "Fucking hell, I've cracked it."

I assume he strolled in, casual as ****: "Yeah, I've just ridden up from The
    Smoke..."

I reckon he'll do the return in under 5 hours. Say, 4:30.

    Wotcha.
Nice pub there - the "Island Pool" - or at least that was the name until a
    few years back.
Did the "Chainmekkers" rally just round the corner at Caunsall. More or
    less on my doorstep.
I remember asking my ol' man
"How do I get to the Lake District?"
"Top of the dual carriageway, turn left and follow that road"
Some 170 or so miles later, I found he was right.
BSA Bantam - on "L" plates - rained all the bloody way there - wouldn't have
    missed it for the world.
These days I don't even think twice about making a journey of over a
thousand miles. . . . and usually on a bike that has less than 30 bhp and a
top speed of around 80 mph.
Yep - the enjoyment of biking is still the same now as it was then. . . .and
I will be up tomorrow and away for the weekend.
    Y'know - life is good.

Ditto when I went to London (from Bath) on my 250. Mind you, I used the
M4 since I didn't feel the need to have L plates on my bike.
