Something to ponder upon

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Don & Cheryle Smith, Mar 4, 2008.

  1. I was riding along minding my own business the other day behind an empty car
carrier that had its ramps fairly low to the ground and I started thinking.
If I rode forward and put my front wheel on the carrier and held steady
there, my front wheel would be stationary and my rear wheel would still be
spinning (obviously). Would I still be able to hold my balance as easily as
normal, half as easily (with only half the gyroscopic force) or would I fall
    off?

Supposing the carrier had ramps over his roof and down to the road in front.
If I rode over the top and put just my front wheel on the road, how would my
    balance be then?

Both cases, you'd be OK until the ABS notices. ;-)

Fark me; you gotta' stop thinking this shit!!
My view is that you'd have half the stability in scenario 1 but you'd still
fall off due to your inability to steer the front wheel.

Scenario 2 you'd be OK but you'd fall off and get run over the instant you
steered slightly differently to the way the truck was steering.

Yeah but they were just clutch "pop ups".

2nd episode of "Alaska to Patagonia" shows a feller doing some beaut
long-distance balance wheelies.... and than having to limp the 1000 miles
to the nearest BMW dealer to have the 1150's gearbox replaced!
