Someone talk me out of it....

    Heh.

I think a veto has been put on this one.

I brought down a couple of price guides and was asked what I was doing
    with them.

'Well, I've seen a really cheap Alfa Spider for sale, just wanted to
    check how cheap it was'

    Answer:

'oh' <went back to reading The Sunday Times>

I think it's possibly not worth asking outright if I want to be spoken
    to again today.

Well, she's currently out of work, having been made redundant last year,
and went back to college to do a course which doesn't finish for another
    month or two.

So, at the moment, it's 'our' money.

My plan was to buy it from the tax rebate I should get for doing
business mileage in my own car....

But I can see the other side of the argument, in terms of ensuring we
have a buffer of cash in case she doesn't get a job for months.

Ah, so this is where we go back to my theory that until there isn't a
job left in the area that you haven't been knocked back for then
there's no excuse to be out of work.

Move to an area with lower unemployment.

Plenty of jobs out there, but you don't spend 6 months in college to go
back to the kind of crap job you left.

No, but I've always thought that it's easier to find a job when you've
    already got one iyswim.

My personal opinion is that I'd take anything on offer rather than be
out of work but not everybody sees it that way.

This was a complete break and career change thing, which I agreed to
support. So I don't really have a leg to stand on in terms of just going
out and spending the cash, unfortunately.

Heh. Nice. HNY all, by the way.

Not even the oily bits were that reliable. the twin cam engine was
fine, as long as you replaced the dodgy cambelt tensioners
periodically. I managed to completely lock a boxers gearbox solid
though, after I heard an expensive 'bang' from it.

I also bent the rear axle on it, they sure were rotboxes, those
    AlfaSuds.

    Cambelt tensioners?

Which engine are we talking here? - 'cos the Alfetta engine is an
    all-alloy chain driven twin-cam.

I was thinking of the 'sud. Boxer with 2 short rubber cambelts.

Erm, the twin cam had chains.
The boxers have, IIRC, two cams, one for each bank, but the worked both
    inlet and exhaust. ISTBC, though.
    Not wrong there :)

That's correct for the 8v Boxer. I had a 16v, with twin cams per bank.

Humm, am I missing something here, only the above odour related comments
could have been written about you, ergo I would have thought you would have
fitted right in and are in fact more ideal than most of the rest of those
    looking for McJob.
