well, the one I mentioned has a day to run, sitting at 1,021.00ukp at
the moment, and I've been told I'm not allowed to buy it[1].

[1] bizarrely though, threatening to buy the outfit has changed the
"what do we need a new TV for?" stance to "if you bought that bike you
won't be able to buy the TV" which is at least handy.

Pater used to live there, apparently the locals are "mostly
    trustworthy".

Had I bought the thing, it wouldn't have been a problem - he's offering
60 quid courier delivery, but in a kill-or-cure fashion, I'd probably
have been on for flying over one way and riding the 400-or-so miles
    back to Norlonto.

As per my other post, I've been forbidden the purchase.

You've just noticed? Common negotiating tactic. First give the other
person an idea of what you actually want. But when you come to it,
demand something slightly more ludicrous, and half of the time, you'll
find the other person advocating that you should go out and buy what
you in fact wanted in the first place. Everyone's a winner.

I don't want a silly modern Japanese one. I want an authentic commie

You can't. You have to come on "Frankfurt Run II - New and Improved,
and with One More Wheel each (and another seat)"

Frankfurt's been done. Chimay, Elefantentreffen or La Bañeza. What sort of
    outfit have you got?

  15. Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, platypus
This is really deeply unwise. I mean, if Sweller can catapult himself
into the British armco just by shutting off, he would put himself into
oncoming traffic in a similar scenario in Foreign parts.

    <thinks>

Actually, it'll be fine. You lot don't shut off when "over there".

    Carry on, sergeant-major.

Won't be the same without reverse. Actually, I've just had an image of us
causing chaos on the car deck, scuttling around in reverse like mad black
    crabs...

I think I may have hit upon (ha-ha) why R/H chairs are illegal in the UK.
The majority of slip roads and all roundabouts are formed of right hand
bends. Right hand bends and right hand chairs don't mix too well.

In foreign parts this is obviously reversed.

I pranged the crate simply because I came into a tightening, yet
sweeping, right hand bend too fast with a madly understeering plot.
*Then* I shut the throttle [1]. This had the effect of turning the armco
    into an electro magnet.

[1] Although I'd come in with my usual motorcycling tactic of "fast
in, fast out" a BMW car behind me had decided I wasn't going fast
enough then chose to overtake me (the lanes had gone 2-1-2), he
ended up flying across my bows, DAGGA DAGGA DAGGA, I reflexly shut
the throttle - oil spattering across my goggles - leaning hard
against the stick, mighty merlin screaming madly, searing pain:
All to a William Walton score.

Whilst you have a point, I suspect that the fate of the "ballast" in
an "I'll just ease over to see past this truck" might have had more to
    do with it.
