Some musical recommendations

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Paul Corfield, Jan 16, 2005.

  1. I'll probably get panned for some of these album recommendations but so
    what.

Beautiful South - Golddiggas, Headnodders and Pholk Songs. Some very
different cover versions of old "standards" but very well executed.
Made me smile and sing along.

Mylo - Destroy Rock and Roll. A very good dance style album. There's
probably a sub genre but I'll let darsy advise what it is.

Kings of Leon - Aha Shake Heartbreak. Surprisingly good for American
    rock.

Kanye West - the college dropout. Again a very pleasant surprise for a
    rap album

50 Cent - Get rich or die tryin' - same comments as for Kanye West.

U2 - How to dismantle an atomic bomb. Only had one listen so far but
    again pretty good.

Now to work my way through Razorlight, the Killers, Green Day, Franz
Ferdinand, Elton John, Kathryn Williams, Brian Wilson and a few others.
I like cheap CDs and good exchange rates :)

    Likewise, here we go:

    Muse: Absolution
Absolutely brilliant, I cannot recommend them highly enough. All their
albums are all great, but they are even better live. Some genuine musical
talent for a change. Genius, especially "Butterflies and Hurricanes" and
    "Stockholm Syndrome."

The Prodigy: Always Outnumbers Never Outgunned
The Prodigy do better beats than anyone, when you're in that sort of mood.
"Girls," is a fantastic track, if you fancy testing the waters.

The Music: Welcome to the North
Some fantasticly exciting rock, especially "Guide" and "Breakin."

Other favourites from last year include The Killers, The Kings of Leon and
Green Day. Although I feel Green Day have become that little bit too 'pop'
    since Dookie.

    Not bad at all.
    Not impressed by FF myself.

    <snip some good stuff>

It'd be easier for me to point people to Rob Da Bank[1] and Zane Lowe[2] for
the entire super-set of my current listening preferences.

He has done a stirling job filling-in for John Peel too :

New album? Little Black Numbers is one of my most played albums. She's
got a lovely voice and style.

  6. this is in the pile to listen to.
Hmm - not got this one although I love their older stuff. It had very
poor reviews and I haven't liked what little I've heard in terms of
    stuff released as singles.
    Also in the pile.

I /think/ I heard this on the radio recently. Quite good, but obviously not
as good as the minute's silence Radio 1 had for the Busted break-up...

I rather like www.playcentric.com - there's some serious bargains to
be had in their (painfully slow to load) clearance sections - and
airmail from Canada is at no extra charge. Each item is sent
individually, so there's less chance of attracting C&E attention.

I know very little about contemporary "dance music". I think the last
CD I bought that you'd contemplate dancing to would be Melody A.M.

Oh, well, I suppose you /could/ dance to Nouvelle Vague, but it's not
    "dance music".

Most stuff I listen to at the moment, you'd probably injure yourself or
others if you tried dancing to it.

search for an MP3 of a Venetian Snares track.

Actually, the Alice Russell album I bought a few months back could be
danced to. But that's the only recent purchase that would work, I
    think.
although I'm aware of the kid's TV show you're referring to, I can't
    think how the music goes.

That used to be but they all went off somewhere or other, following - I'm
led to believe - a Mr Spoon.
