The XX has just eaten up another rear tyre. I suppose 3 rear tyres in
16,000 kms isn't too bad, given we're almost always 2-up with gear and
sometimes we (yes, it's Lisa's fault half the time...) even give it a wee
    bit...

I've gone for 020s again. For us they've been pretty good - the Michelin
before the last 020 didn't last very long at all.

Anyway, hopefully we'll waste some of this one riding with some of you crazy
    buggers! :)

    Cheers,

  2. Carol and I are always 2-up, and most often carrying luggage (and towing
a trailer to PI). The Metzler ME550 still had some tread left on it
after 7000 km, but the edges were really badly scalloped - enough to
start to effect handling on a recent trip to Iluka.

I've got a M99A on at the moment, and will see how that holds up, but
will eventually try a Shinko Tourmaster (Pity they don't come in
    140/80x17.

The front Michelin Macadam 50E is holding up very well. I'll probably
    see 10,000 out of it.

  3. I totally understand, that Blackbird was rubber hungry, I had the 1997
model and could never get more than 3,500ks out of a set, most of my travel
[read as near ALL] was a very quick and short commute on a few fast bends so
the tyres were being painfully torn when cold, but damn, the cost of tyres
far exceed that of fuel, rego and insurance!! Fat bastard!

Pity, I just bought the 'baby' blackbird, a Vtec VFR800, another fat
bastard, lets see how it goes with cold tearing :)

    Hi Jason,

Yes, those commutes do a bit of chewing eh? Strange that we're so keen to
    get to work so quickly.

Tell me, when are the 'bends' going to be open between the 'Gong and
Stanwell? If they were part of your commute you'd be pissed off about their
closure (along with pub owners around there...), and I'd be very jealous.
    :)

Cheers and have fun with the Viffer!

The XX has just eaten up another rear tyre. I suppose 3 rear tyres in
Just over 5000K's per rear tyre, bloody luxury I say.

I just sold my 02 KTM LC4 Supermoto which I was getting 3000-3500K's on the
rear and about 5000K's from the front. Tyres being GPR70's and my tyre bill
for the last two years was $1400.00 per year and I only rode solo and the
bike weighed in at 153Kg wet. "Sheeeesh."

But I am hooked on Supermoto. So like a druggy who can't get his fix, I
will be on my new LC4 by mid next year. Ohh well, better start saving for
    tyres.

Just back from a Mt White run and cheers to Chris and Andrew - good coffee
mates. :) The new tyre is now looking a little used and even treated me to
a couple of little sideways experiences... yeeee-ha!

I kept an eye out for you Cam and Zebee but I was probably at Pie while you
    blasted past!

Have fun and hope you're out enjoying the coolness today.

  7. Hi Dave,

Seemingly a few years off!!! They wont be anything like they used to, the
bends themselves will be replaced by an offshore bridge of sorts!!

Thankfully my run is just from Balgownie (halfway up the mt Ousley) to the
bottom of the mountain, only 10 minutes tops, but the roads I take are
beautifully twisted, wide and far from school kids..

I think my ridings become more sedate anyway, having a couple of kids has
changed that, still, its a nice fun ride into work :)

There are two ST2's coming up in the next fowles.com.au auction, one of
these wouldnt be your recently found one would it?

    Geeze Dave,

I run the same BT020 and I've got 14,300km out of my rear so far. I guess
that commuting in Sydney just doesn't chew up the tyres as much as burning
    along the coastline.

    What am I doing wrong?

I've got a now dead BT020 on the back of my 1200 and I got 8000 out of it.
It depends upon your mix of riding, how hard and fast you ride, how much of
your riding is in summer on hot roads, how heavy your bike is, if you ride
with a pillion or not, if you ride with luggage or not... a whole heap of
    things.

Wock Wock Wock... there's a big trapdoor around here and I smell it. Not
biting on that one tiger... :)

As for the mileage you're getting out of your rear, perhaps you should keep
that kind of stuff to yourself.

P.S. One day I'll point out the throttley bit on your bike...

Killed my Dunlop D220 on Saturday trying to keep up with Moike on road to
Cabramurra and Khancoban. I got 5000km out of the original D208, 6000km out
of a D220 lots of commuting and a bit of scratching, 6900 out of the next
D220, mostly commuting or touring at a sedate pace and just a bit over 4000km
out of the current tyre, no commuting, mostly scratching, none of it
    particularly sedately.

    Dave,

You'll show me the throttle? Yippee.
After you showed me the clutch, I'm loving this 2 speed bike.

Speakin'-o-which, can someone (or all-of-youse) give
me a url to the photo of the BMW GS (Clem's?, or at
least Clem linked to it) with the bloody great black
plastic toolbox on it from the PI trip. I was talking
about it at the pub, and someone asked for a URL.

    G, that's not a ute....
