I've been itching to add another SOB to the fleet and spotted 140233837946
    and 270238632593 on fleabay.

ISTR that these were nice practical workhorses in their day, solid and
reliable. Why do these two look different for the same year, was it a
model change or two optional versions under the same name.

What does the team think of these as a town hack with occasional short
motorway trips, the main objectives being agility in town traffic and
enough speed to get past the trucks in lane one.

If you really must have a Superdream, you probably ought to talk to Zymurgy,
who currently has the National Collection.

They look different because one is blue and one is silver without the
    decals.

Heh. currently looking to downsize and relocate the national
collection of Superdream treasures, but my search is coming up
    nought.

Have you tried selling stuff that is located in another country. It's
    a right ****.

    Cheers,

    Paul.

  10. Oh, that's what they are. I cba to look. If sir desperately must have a
Snooperpooper, the 400 is the only one worth entertaining. The 250 is an
asthmatic pile of poo. 400 has all the crappy finish and rotten parts,
but at least can keep up with traffic.

I just need some time. Like 3 months gardening leave. However, I can
guarantee that 'someone' will find me better things to do with my time
off than tinkering with old shite in the driveway.

Hmm. Like finding a new job. Arse.

Reviews at the time alleged that it was possibly a better bike than the
    400/4.

  14. Bike journos, eh? Whadda they know?

I never owned, but had plenty of rides on both the 250 and the 400 SD
when they were new. Out of the showroom the 250 was ok, but they rapidly
became something awful as time passed. Only the extra power made the 400
tolerable; indeed, I knew a few couriers with an SD 400 as reserve bike,
for they could be picked up (with a wheelbarrow full of spares) for the
price of a packet of cornflakes.

To say they might have been better than the 400/4 was a travesty.

    I don't get this.

As far as I'm concerned, there are three classes of bikes to own:

    1) Genuinely desirable bikes

    2) Bikes that are outdated but tug the heartstrings

    3) Pieces of shit owned for economic reasons.

It's 2008. What the **** are you on?

I suppose a lot depends of the objectives of the review. The 400/4 was
a nice bike for the open road but the extra power is useless in town.
Lightweights are all about agility and the 400/4 was a heavy machine
for its day. This is the reason why you still see city couriers on
    90s and 125s.

You can have a lot of fun on a lightweight, they bring out the 1950s
teenager in me, I would like to get a Bantam to fool around on but
the money they fetch nowadays is just plain stupid.

I happen to like lightweights for town use and the SD was the iconic
lightweight in its day. Big bikes are fine on the open road but a
    pain in the city.

It's not lightweight, though - it's a lardy old heap of underpowered
    crap weighing around 170kgs.

That's almost as much as my 750SS and around the same as many modern 600
    / 1000cc sportsbikes.

I'm trying to arrange my collection of bikes to suit your categories
    and I'm struggling.

    Kawasaki ZX10R: Category 2.

KTM 690SM: somewhere between 1&2 because a 650 single *has* to be
    outdated.

BMW K100: I suppose it's a 3 but someone has to buy them.
    Acid.

Iconic? You must have lived through a different 1970s and 1980s to me
because I never considered a fucking wet dream to be iconic.
