So, what are they using?

  1. There seems to be something of a spate of chemical suicides going on.

Idle curiosity makes me wonder what they're using, but not enough to do
    some potentially dodgy Googling.

One of you lot will know. I can make some guesses, but everything I can
think of would be deeply unpleasant.

Hydrogen Sulphide apparently. They either made some using some "household
chemicals" or had a major night on the curry and beer then locked the doors.
    Either way, it wasn't pleasant.

Police are trying to find out if they met on a suicide forum on the internet,
**in a copycat case of Joanne Lee and Stephen Lumb**. The bodies of Ms Lee, 34,
and Mr Lumb, 35, were found in a car in Braintree, Essex. They killed
themselves by releasing a chemical inside the vehicle

Sky are speculating, unusual for them really, that there's a link to
some Japanese crank or gook kook as darsy would say. They mention H2S.
Effect quick & similar to cyanide if the concentration is high enough. Very
unpleasant at lower levels, causing pulmonary oedema and eye irritation
    before death.

Inconsiderate bastards. If they want to top themselves, fine. But don't
put other people at risk when trying to deal with the aftermath.

  8. I seem to recall hearing that the first pair that did it plastered the
car windows with warning signs, thus alerting the authorities not to
open the doors without HAZMAT gear.

    I'd really rather not,

Mind, I was impressed with the guy a few years back who tied one end of
a long rope round his neck, the other end round a tree, then jumped in
his car and drove away at high speed.

Not exactly a "cry for help", that one.

A remote site I sometimes worked at was located on a sewage farm and
because it was in a sealed building there was a possibility of
Hydrogen Sulphide build up. So there was a tester installed by the
door, IIRC the warning sheet pointed out that in higher concentrations
it was no longer possible for humans to detect whereas lower levels
    were very obvious.

What he said. I have many friends who are paramedics and lifeguards.
They deal with dead bodies regularly. It's not pretty. One of my
tenants shot himself in the head in his living room. If you're going
to do it, at least have some consideration for those who have to clean
    up afterward.

  14. I was impressed by the guy who built a working guillotine in his
bedroom, and who set up the release on a timer set for the middle of the
night, swallowed a load of sleeping pills, and said "nighty-night" to
    himself.

It was a few years ago, so hasn't been that well archived on the
interwebthingy, but there are some details here:

I remember from one of the original reports that his Dad had no idea
he'd built the thing, "because he didn't go into his son's room much".
