  2. Oh well, if you've already had a look around, I bow to your direct
experience of this engine just now. All the same, I wonder if somebody
with t'internet and a knowledge of Italian could find them more cheaply
    from Italy.

According to a lot of dealers and Guzzi owners "that way madness lies".
"On back order" is also a popular phrase.

I've looked on US sites and they're quoting $31 per half shell - same as
UK prices with the added hassle of tax and postage.

  4. Not when they are capable of doing 200,000 miles on a set of
    bearings[1].

    [1] Not sweller's, obviously.

....as an ex-police bike I suspect it has done in excess of 250,000.

Of course, which is why most sane people write down the
code on the bearing itself and then go to their local
bearing suppliers and get them to do the hard work ;-)

  8. Heh. I've no doubt.
Oh well, "Grin and bear it", looks like being the phrase to remember.
Almost makes me glad I didn't hang on to mine.

Service items are cheap and parts are readily available for a machine
that's been long out of production.

To be honest, a few hundred quid for the bits for a bottom end rebuild
isn't the end of the world, either.

  12. That's very true, of course. Taken into TCO, it's nothing per mile. If
the oil incident hadn't happened (and I'm not pointing a finger at
Sweller, ged knows it could happen to anybody), I wonder what the
eventual life would have been. Afair, they have a fairly generous
    bearing area.
