So *that´s* why I´m here...(in Andalucía)

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Paul Carmichael, Jun 21, 2004.

  1. Went out for a little bimble to El Chorro today. Riding around our lake
and then heading south for Campillos. Hundreds of acres of sunflowers to
my right (in full flower), olive groves to my left and straight ahead is
the mountain range of Sierra de Yeguas (I think - I often get my sierras
    mixed up).

Today I´ve seen some of the best views of my life. And ridden the
twistiest roads. All in a mere 70 miles.

    Thanks for listening.

Heh. I know just how you feel. Every time I ride home from work :)
    My pleasure.

    Sound lovely.

I live in between the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons so I've got all
    that shit on my doorstep.

I can also stop at a nice pub and have a pint of English ale :p

Lovely. Have you got the Blackbird over there now? (Sorry, I've
    probably not been paying attention)

  5. Yup. Rode it down a few months ago. In the pouring rain. I've only
really ridden it twice since. Once to Jerez (in the pouring rain) and
today (in glorious sunshine). When you come out, I'll show you some
'interesting' roads. The road to El Torcal is good, and when you get
there, there's some *amazing* scenery. Real spaghetti western stuff,
after all, those Clint Eastwood films were all filmed here. You can
almost see the injuns hiding behind the rocks. Like I say though, forget
leathers, unless you can keep up a good pace in the twisties and don't
mind melting into a blob when you get off the bike. Oh, and there is the
    occasional pothole...

Bet you can't do 180mph and get away with it though.

Not on the GS. The wind blast gets decidedly uncomfortable at 120 that I've
not bothered to find out the indicated maximum which is probably not much
    more.

Although, Wales is not policed as bad as the hype makes out. You just have
to be a bit savvy where you go fast as they target the primary routes with
civilian operated mobile cameras, mainly during office hours. You'd have to
be very unlucky to get done for speeding on the A40 dual carriageway
between Raglan & Abergavenny as the road is virtually straight for 9 miles
so you can see the camera vans before they see you. It's years since I've
seen an actual traffic car patrolling the road.

So, I accept your bet. You'll just have to lend me your bike to settle it.
Or we could get Champ to do an independent verification.

I think, if I had a bike capable of 180mph I know a few places I could get
    away with it.

I'm not in Wales mind you.

  13. I'm not sure. Into a few beers at the moment. We have all the info in
brochures. El Torcal is next to Antequera. On a good day, you can see
the sea and Sierra Nevada from there.

    ¿Que significa "commeremate"?

  15. I´ve sourced some Ruddles County just down the road (in cans, but hey).
1 euro 40 per can. Shame I have to go to a brit shop to buy it though.
    Bloody expats.

Antequera? <fires up mapquest> That's *west* of Granada. The place
I'm talking about is east of Granada, in Almeria in fact. Here :

    Paul Carmichael says...
I always used to get the 2.9 litre XR4x4 and the stupily named XR4i 2
litre mixed up, I know how you feel. Cosworths were another one, it
wasn't easy to tell a 4x4 from a rear wheel drive one.

  19. Granada´s only an hour from my house. I can be on the slopes at Sierra
Nevada within an hour and a half :)
