So much for public transport then...

Tomorrow I shall get my arse to the Post Office and buy a tax disc for the
    VFR.

After the interesting experience of commuting by train for a couple of
months I've rather thoroughly had it with public transport. Highlight of
this week so far was when the train had to go back to West Malling station
last night because the driver apparently forgot to open the doors, much to
the amusement of all the people who weren't planning to get off in West
    Malling anyway.

That's why commute on a motorbike, According to the head of network
rail there target is to run 90% of trains on time[1]. if I commute I
have to catch four a day so I have only a 65% chance of getting a
day's travel on time. If the train that is late is the first leg of
the journey, I'm not going to be just a few minutes late either, I'm
going to miss the connection. So it's likely I'd be half hour late
(providing of course that the second train runs on time, or at all).

[1] And that's going on their forged statistics which exclude all the
events that are "outside their control" so if someone jumps in front
of a train and everything stops for the evening, or it snows, or
leaves get on the line that won't appear in the statistics as
detracting from the 90% rate. They even had the cheek one year to
close a section of the track into London Bridge due to civil works on
the track side, reschedule the Waterloo train for a couple of months
to run to Blackfriars which was no use at all if you wanted to get a
connecting train from Waterloo. Then say they hadn't missed any trains
because there was a replacement. I don't know why they don't have a
train on a short length of track somewhere in Scotland and every time
a train is cancelled in London they can run it up and down a siding
and say they rescheduled the London train so it was OK really.
