Why? There's work to be done, and I like doing it.
Well, to be fair there isn't a lot else to do. But mainly it's because
I love getting stuff done. Sense of achievement, and all that.
Purely the location. Kuwait sucks arse, as does Iraq and Afghanistan.
My well-being is not in question: I'm tip-top. I've even shed a few
pounds in the last little while.
It's just the way he likes to operate. He wants to keep in touch with
his projects all over the world, and he does it. I respect him for it.
It's good that we're all not the same.

    I do.
I doubt I'll change much throughout my career. I like being busy, I
like being involved, I like have lots of stuff going on.
That's possibly true sub-consciously. But consciously, I just know that
    I dig it.
Sadly, 30th birthday was last September. Am in period of mourning.
    I'm buzzing.

He's doing fine. He probably will retire, because he's 61 this year.
But I've no doubt that he could carry on as long as he wants - because
it's just the way he operates. From what he says, it's been his way all
his working life - 30 years in the military, and 10 years with us.

I certainly get a lot of my definition of who I am from my work; if this
    is self-validation then that's it.

I am on a good day.

I'm pretty certain I could hack that if I felt my job required it.

Sadly it is, unless I head out to Reading first and double back.

Nope, I fully expect to be standing with my head wedged in someone's
    armpit
for the whole 39 minutes. On the plus side, at that time of the morning
    I
should still be fast asleep even on my feet...

Not quite so bad from MH (a mere £2.5k a year) but I did check the cost
    of
a ticket from Didcot for pure comedy value, and may I just say "ho ho
    ho"

The payrise more than covers the cost of a season ticket, and with the
    role
I'm taking (Senior TA) it might as well list 'CV polish' as one of the
    benefits.

That'll be mine one week a month. Softens the pain a little.

Emailed. I find it hard to answer this question without making a joke
that, should it make its way back to either employer, could be severely
career limiting. So I'm fucked if I'm doing it on a newsgroup!

I spent saturday afternoon trying to coax a front wheel drive Ford Puma
round a mud and gravel infested circuit while some bugger kept driving
    round spraying water everywhere.

Not a bad way to spend a birthday, but it's fucking hard!

39 minutes is when it's on time, yes? Takes me 42 when mine are on
time, but then that happens about as often as me overtaking someone[1]
    on a FOT.
Indeed. Ho hum. My choice for working in London I guess.

    Territorial Army?

I may shortly be doing the same daily journey in reverse, although I think
I'll exhaust all the 2-wheeled options before hauling my ass up to Ealing
Broadway to sit on some tedious stopping service.

Sometimes, but I've been travelling that (or variations of that) route
for 4 years now and have, pretty much, seen it all now.

One of the reasons I joined their customer panel - not to get my face
plastered around Reading station (TVM FGW) but more to try and improve
    my services.

The jury is still out ;-)

  17. I'm sorry but bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

I shall have to ask two people in the office if they've seen the wanted
    poster ;-)
