I've just been asked to write the jobspec for my new, non-IT, nu-media,
    Barleyesque position. Which is nice.

"1. Is responsible for all quality issues in respect of adult content"
    ....

I'm at my desk a touch after 6 most days. TBH it's totally normal now,
and I don't even think about it. My commute is only ten minutes,
    though, which helps.

One of the VPs I report to is often at his desk at 03.45, which is
    ludicrous.

It was a bit like that when I was in Abu Dhabi.

Not good if you've had a late night on cheap Long Island Iced Teas.

  8. I thought 7.15 was bad enough. I do finish early though so that's a
compensation. What time do you finish then?
    That's a matter of opinion.
    Perhaps you should?
    Well yes.
I think ludicrous is an understatement.

  9. So who are you going to be working for then?

I've generally only been in bed an hour and a half by then.

My average workday starts about 8:55 these days, and entails a walk
    across the landing.

You wouldn't if you lived in Kuwait. All there is to do is chase bored
septic housewives. Actually, it might rather suit you.
    Don't think I don't tell him that.

No, I've always found that going directly from a nightclub to work leads
    to a really unproductive day.

I usually get out by about 1900.
    Well, I meant that it's now normal /for me/. I'm a morning person in
    any case, which helps.
    Why? It's okay by me.
No buses, either, which is a clear bonus.
Selfishly, I like it, because it means that I get some of my calls from
HQ dealt with early afternoon, rather than early-mid-late evening.

Well, Ginge, I think we may have identified one of the differences
between you, and the VP of a billion-dollar company.

  16. So a 13 hour day? - you're mad.
I'm not sure it's helping me understand why you are at work for more
    than 50% of a day.
I know you derive a lot of self esteem from your work performance but
this sort of commitment is crazy IMO. I accept you won't agree but
you've been moaning a lot of late about where you are working - I just
think you need to decide what is more important to you. Your well being
or raking in loads of cash in the desert?
The man is still mad whether or not he is a VP in a billion dollar
    business or not.

You're a lovely chap Ben but I cannot fathom you and your relationship
    to work!

    Yeah, I know.

The day I can afford someone to walk across the landing for me it'll all
    be cushdy.

"In respect to" or "with respect to"

It would be a shame to lose the job because your job spec. didn't measure
    up.

And it you need any help with qualitative issues, just let me know.

I hope for your sake that's not a FGWL train from Maidenhead.

If it's the First HST that *may* be better, but I think that's usually
    full by Reading.

And the cost of a season ticket is just hilarious for it's sheer "lets
    make up a number-ness".
