"CI Ahton added: "Responsible riders are welcome to visit these areas
and take in the stunning scenery and landscape, but even they face
risk of death or serious injury by underestimating the risk posed by
fatigue brought on by a combination of driving long distances and
concentrating on navigating challenging and unfamiliar routes."

That's why some of us ride tourers and use GPS's. ;-)

'One senior officer says many riders are using public roads like
    "racetracks"'

I don't know *anyone* who would be stupid enough to do that.

I have already made the greatest contribution to the fight against climate
change that I can make: I have decided not to breed. Now quit bugging me and
go and talk to the Catholics.

"The period immediately after a lengthy break
from riding, such as just after lunch, is a time when
riders are particularly vulnerable and not immediately
    concentrating on their riding."

So continuing riding after lunch is worse than in the morning, after a
    good night' s sleep ?

I suppose a break from riding is as dangerous as a break from driving
    :)))

Wtf specifically travels for any distance to N. Wales to ride a bike

<sad> I always used to, BB.

PB I'm not so keen, nice sunny day dawns and...
The first thing you bump into on your way to the
border is one of those effin police copters out on
a days jolly, burning tax payers money at ged only
knows what sort of rate. Quite dispiriting.

I think it's more of a political thing. The N Wales Police Authority will
drive policy and recruit senior officers that reflect their views.

A coupe of years ago, the Welsh Assembly wanted to centralise the police
forces. There was a big noise from N Wales about loss of regional control,
    blah, blah.

It seems the N Wales plod are on a mission to prove they are a worthwhile
entity in their own right and seem to court any form of publicity. So, we
have Brunstrom being Tasered, learning Welsh, blogging, anti-christ in MCN
    etc.

Brunstrom is just a puppet of a few N Wales councillors on the Police
Authority, trying to keep the cushy meal ticket for themselves and the
"independent" members. If the PA thought he was a liability they would've
    pensioned him off ages ago.

It's not just him. It's the nature of North Wales.
Bog all happens here of consequence so they literally have nothing
    better to do.
I suspect it will never change. I'm curious to see how all these average
speed cameras will work round here on certain roads though. No electric
and mountains in the way of the wireless and all that.

Or enjoying the experience and freedom whilst taking in ones
surroundings? I choose not to live my life in a rush but to enjoy it
wherever I can. Some people are only happy when close to the edge, I
just don't happen to be one of them. Anyway, without us you wouldn't
have anyone to overtake and where would the fun be in it for you then?
    ;-)
Isn't that what we should all do if for no better reason than to keep
our licences? Also I think that's called 'good observation' and 'being
in control of your vehicle'? Nothing fatiguing about any of it if you
are good at what you do.
Because it's different. There are those who actually enjoy riding solo
motorbikes (note not sidecars or quads [1]) without it having to be a
white knuckle ride every second of the way. Those who often have our
young offspring riding pillion and are content to just 'get there'
making good progress and arrive in a good shape and having enjoyed the
trip. If I want some excitement I go shooting or to the funfair ... or
bring the girlfriend home to meet the wife.
