    check, check,
    well, wibbly-wobbly at the stalk...
    check

also brand-new piston rings that didn't actually need fitting when I
opened the engine up and measured the old ones, old tyres that I
wouldn't normally use but might come in handy in a cash emergency, a
stock of odd gaskets bought in case they were needed because they were
    dirt cheap....

This might be a whoosh [1] but if you're using Thunderbird as your
newgroup client you can press the "Ctrl" and "+" keys to zoom in. Very
handy when catching up on the big screen telly in the living room ;-).

[1] Having just spent £550 on a pair of exotic varifocals I just need to
adjust the angle of my head to zoom in.

Well bugger me. I've been using Thunderbird on my 42" for the last year
and walking over to it when it got tricky.

Not in tryping mode though. Maybe Thunderguts 3 does, but I'm sticking
with v.2 until Leetkey will go on without playing with complicated
    shell-scripts.

Handy for reading, but I'd like it to o the same when my fingers are
    getting tangled.
Never noticed that there - have I got one?
I have varifocals too, but I'd have to raise the Eee at least a foot
    before neck-cricking is cancelled.

Then my fingers would get in the way...

So I take the hooters off.

On the new secondhand Acer I'm taming ATM, there's no promble at all,
with or without glasses. Soon, I'll be able to tip XP off it and
Linuxury! When I were lad, all I 'ad were CP/M, 'appen.

It doesn't zoom for typing in version 3 either.
Heh, can't believe you've got a netbook but not the essential trapping
of modern society, an oversize flat screen TV in the living.

Have to admit that I bought these last December but didn't get on with
them so went out a blew another horrendous amount getting a pair of
normal air titaniums. Only went back to these after losing the air
titaniums at the Elefant. Strangely enough I've adapted to these okay
this time, probably because I spent a week without glasses at all.
Although I still feel that the peripheral vision is compromised a bit.
I put Ubuntu netbook remix on my daughters Acer One, appears to work
okay although I'm pretty sure all she uses on it is vlc videolan player
and aMSN. I occasionally borrow it to catch up with Thunderbird but I
find the 600 pixel height just too small.

Was a piece of piss to install and if you don't want to modify your
existing os you can run it off the usb stick.

Was almost tempted to buy one of the touch screen overlays for it as the
screen layout for the netbook remix just screams out "touchscreen".

One more reason for not 'upgrading'
Oh, never realised they were essential - well, not since the GF would
have gone home to watch her soap (late '60s...) and when she went, so
    did the box.

I can honestly say that I don't know when I'd find time to slump - Ive a
pile of DVDs to watch, and I've hd some of them for more than a year.
Just can't find an unoccupied slot in time. And I *REALLY* want to see
    The Producers. (Film and musical)
    (The varifocals, not the fingers)
Yes. they're not so bad as they were for that five or maybe a bit more
years ago. I was afraid to drive in them.
Ah, the acer is an Apsire 5000 with a decent sized HDD and a screen the
size of a double duvet - well, seems like it after the wEee. It will
    play host to Debian (Lenny).
BIOS doesn't seem to support boot from USB - yes, I have looked, and in
mitigation, this *IS* one of the first Eee lot - there were queueueueues
for them when I got it.
Nah - it'd get in the way of the advance/retard lever and the manual
    oiler...
