Just returned from my first Snowy Ride,
and wanted to report what fun it was, and to thank the organisers.

Between Friday and Sunday, the roads were mostly dry, although on
Saturday the last 30 kms or so of the Alpine Way in/out of Thredbo, saw
    rain and sleet.

Thredbo itself was fairly dull and miserable most of Saturday, and most
of the group I travelled with, decided to stay inside and drink rum &
coke all day. I had come to ride and so I did, and once down closer to
Jindabyne, it was sunny and dry.

I even had a chance meeting with one of NSWs finest, who settled for a
stern talking-to over a minor indiscretion on my part.

Loads of fun and socialising at each of the checkpoints I visited at
Jindabye, Dalgety, Cooma and Berridale. Didn't make it to Adaminaby.

The presentations and speaches in the village square in Thredbo Village
on Saturday evening were mercifully short, as by then the rain and sleet
and become a near permanent fixture. The concert with Jimmy Barnes
    rocked, of course.

Due to other commitments, the trip back to Sydney on Sunday was via the
quick but boring route (ie Monaro & Hume Hwys).

Naturally, the BMW K1200RS performed faultlessly all weekend :)

It was reported that there were 2488 (I think) registered riders and
pillions at this years event, and the tentative date for next years ride
    is 27th Nov.

What's dull and miserable about that? Although Bourbon and Dry would've
    been nicer....

The Cop you met must have been nicer than the one my mate met
lightened his wallet to the tune of $1600 !

    <snip>

Mate, you should have gone up Charlotte Pass, it was bucketing down
snow (though not when I took the photos of the bike), bloody brilliant
http://evilurl.com/BUTTSTABPECKER To avoid the main traffic (and
therefore coppers) next time, try the quick loop from Jindabyne ->
Dalgety -> Berridale for your stamps then head to Eucombine Dam from
Berridale. Ride across the wall and go left through the pine trees
which loops past the bottom of the spillway and back up to the road
again. Then take the back road to Jindabyne and up to Charlotte Pass
for a play in the snow. :)

    Ash,

On the Saturday I did the Thredbo -> Jindabyne -> Dalgety -> Cooma ->
Berridale -> Jindabyne -> Thredbo circuit.

It was at Dalgety that I had my meeting with the law.

The back road from Eucombine Dam to Jindabyne sounds interesting.

  7. Yeah, sorry didn't make myself clear. Jinddabyne/Dalgety/Berridale etc
is where you will come across the cops so do that loop first cause its
quick (i.e short) even at legal speeds then you can get into the good
stuff. I saw the copper at Dalgety too, he was chatting about his bike
to a group of interested onlookers at the checkpoint.
