Indeed. Frosts and cold dankness yes, but not snow. Hopefully it is
just a temporary and shortlived aberration.
    I think that's what's causing it Rog ...

  5. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember Whinging Courier
You really shouldn't live in that van, you know.

Ice on car windows and my bike's saddle here in Watford. None on the
ground, thank goodness, but I guess there could be in some shadowed
    bits.

Jolly nice here (Brighton seafront) this morning. Sunny and clear; just
got back from the post box, no need for a coat.

The problem is icing on the conductor rail. A layer of ice causes
serious arcing - to the extent that the ice can actually isolate the
collector shoes from the rail head.

We used to have a couple of old 1936 built units converted to lay a
de-icing/water dispersant fluid on the juice rail the night before. This
prevented the bulk of ice problems.

As an aside: the driver's side window on the 1963 stock was tinted. I
initially thought this was a nice touch to prevent sun coming in but is
actually to prevent the driver suffering arc eye in the winter.

The new stock has a higher current draw than the old (more auxiliary
systems; air con, doors and the like) and is a lot more sensitive to
    arcing.

Last winter the computers detected it as a fault and shut down the
traction packages; there was an "ice mode" override but this resulted in
the traction equipment permanently damaging itself and the units grinding
    to a halt. Again.

Which would probably explain why the company are trying to get their
    money back from Bombardier.

GBP 45 for a pickup load. Dunno about the weight of the load, but Tim
our log man delvers the same to all his customers. He stacks them up
around the back of the house too.

Tell me about it. I had to ride back from Nottingham to Bristol yesterday
    afternoon.

My Gore-Tex jacket surrendered[1] shortly after I got to the M5, so a large
    coffee break[2] was in order.

Now that I think about it, *every* time I go anywhere near Derby, I get
utterly pissed on on the way home. I'm thinking of referring to it as
    "Ginge's revenge".[3]

[1] As did the trousers where I have split the seam through excessive pie
    consumption :-(
[2] Translation. Sit in motorway services, hang jacket off chair, leave
gloves on because you are too cold, and leave a 3ft wide puddle behind from
the jacket draining onto the floor.
[3] With a nice big LIGAF to the Apostrophe Nazis if I got it wrong...

What is it about train stations which makes them feel 10 degrees colder
    than everywhere else.

One would also imagine that, of all companies, Bombardier could meet
    that prerequisite.

With the double glazing, I can see the steam coming from his naked
