Getting me first bike to have chain drive for a while (last bike to have
chain drive was when i was 17, and knew everything, and part of that was a
quick spray with WD40 every few months was all it needed, even when riding
    on skeggy beach)

So thinking of getting one of these new fangled automatic chain oiling
devises, seems the scotoiler is about 60 quids, are there any alternatives?

I really want a fit and forget solution, except ocasional re-filling of the
resovoir of course.. what i mean is there's an oiler on the market that you
give a squeezy bottle a squeeze everytim you start out or something like
that, i want sommat that will do it's magic automaticaly, and not piss oil
all over the floor when parked up.

The bike had fuel injection if that matters, i think the scotoiler needs a
vacuum take off to work it, not sure if that will be harder to do on a bike
    with fi, it's only a 125 (honda XL125V) got a V twin if that makes a
    differance.

Yes, but apparently they are shite.
If you get the scottoiler, just remember to take it off 'prime' when
    done refilling/setup.

I have one on the v-strom which id FI too. It works just fine and I've
had no problems since fitting it. 14K on the chain and never had to
    adjust it.

No problem fitting a snotoiler to a fuel injected bike. In fct it's just the
same as with a carbed bike. Cut the vac tube, insert "T" piece, re-connect
the cut pieces and then connect to the oiler.

After priming, you DO need to set the flow with the dial on top of the unit
and that's a trial and error thing, but once done, it's a "forgetaboutit"
job apart from the occasional top-up.

Chainsaw oil from an Arboralists. I got 5 litres for a tenner about 5
years ago and I'm still using it.

I am the anti-Lozzo. Last weekend I was cutting some trees down and I
ran out of chainsaw oil. A frantic search of the garage revealed some
Scottoiler oil, so I put that in the chainsaw.

    Sorry.

Muchos thankos peoples, thats the thing, a lubeman, sounds more like a sex
    aid for the over 60's,

can't be arsed with squeezing a bottle every time i go out, i can see how it
works and very simple it is too, but give her a squeeze, go for a ride then
decide to go back home, and it'll sit on the carpark pissing oil over the
tarmac, and the flats managment company will be even more pissed off with me
    me thinks.

So it seems i'd best get saving me pennies for a proper scotoiler, cheers
    for the cainsaw oil tip,
Don't suppose anyone knows where the cheapest place to get a snotoiler from
is? or is 60 quids about the norm.

The alternative to a snotoiler is a worn-out, rusty chain.

I got a 5-litre container of chain-saw oil a few years ago, from the
excellent Mr Gyp. Still going strong, it is.

I've got a Motrax Lubetronic (c £50) fitted, with the optional
electronic control (c £25),which makes the flow fully adjustable.
Works off the ignition - and works perfectly.

Or doing what sensible people do and using chain lube so they can
check their chain when they lube it.

Shaft drives are another sensible solution but only if you buy one
with a knackered old BMW attached to it.

Having followed the accused through some leafy parts of California, I
can vouch for his heterosexuality in matters of motorcycle riding. He's
very smooth but he don't hang about.

You could have a Guzzi and one that lubes the back wheel too. The
Kawasaki GT saves throwing oil about but it does have an unhealthy taste
    for petrol.

They're even about 60 squid on eBay, so you're probably as well just getting
one from your local bike shop rather than waiting for an auction to end.
Chances are you'll save a couple of quid using eBay only to pay more in post
and packaging too and then find out the **** dun't work or something's
    missing from the box.
